Announcing the 2010 Washington D.C. AGOT Regional Championship

By finitesquarewell, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Geeky gentlemen and gentlewomen,

A comprehensive info sheet with the details for the upcoming 2010 Washington D.C. AGOT Regional Championship, to be held on Saturday, May 29 at The Game Parlor in Chantilly, VA, may be found here:

http://erickbutzlaff.com/games.html

Note in particular the way in which we're going to establish the legality of Lords of Winter and A King in the North based on retail availability on Tuesday, May 18.

Dan/twn2dn and I will be co-directing the event, and we'll both be playing as well. No preregistration is necessary; we'll have enough space for everyone who shows up. We really hope to see a great turnout for what's sure to be one of the most fiercely competitive AGOT events of the year!

Erick's PDF link contains all the relevant info. But just in case you missed it...

Venue:

The Game Parlor / Chantilly
13936 Metrotech Drive

Cost: $10 (No matter how many entrants we have, cost will be only $10 for each person.)

good ;uck guy hope you have a ton of fun

I talked with Erick about the legality of Stark. I think it would be great if Stark were legal before the tournament, but we were trying to strike a balance to give people enough time to adjust to the post-Stark box environment, playtest, etc. We though the 17th would be a good deadline, but if people prefer the "legal if available one week before" rule, that works for us to.

This is just a straw poll, but if you plan to attend, let me know what you prefer: (a) Stark box legality based on "available one week before" rule or (b) legal if available on the 17th or earlier. (Or if you have other ideas for legality criteria, please suggest!)

Thanks!

Dan and I have decided to change the legality date for Lords of Winter and A King in the North to the close of business on Friday, May 21st -- just short of a week before the tournament. Private conversations have led me to believe that if LoW is available, people will be excited to play with it. Legality likely will be based on whether or not the venue (The Game Parlor, Chantilly, VA) has it in stock, not an online retailer.

Airline Tickets purchased (Thanks to adjusting my work schedule to be in DC the week of the 24th).

Hotel Room booked.

Now if only I can build a winning deck.

Looking forward to the 29th

Hey everyone,

A reminder that the Washington DC AGOT Regional Championship is coming up in 7.5 days. The event is being held at The Game Parlor in Chantilly, VA on Saturday, May 29. We'll be starting at 12:30 pm sharp. The info sheet for the tournament is on my website:

http://erickbutzlaff.com/games.html

A King in the North (the fifth chapter pack of the Defenders cycle) will be legal for the event; the store has some quantity of it in stock, though I don't have an exact quote on exactly how many copies they'll have in stock next Saturday.

As of right now, we're expecting 3-6 players from the DC area, 5 from DE/PA, Rob Jones from Tennessee, and hopefully 2+ from NYC. Any of you who plan on coming but haven't let me know, please do so (though it's not necessary).

Feel free to hit me up with any questions hope to see some overwhelming number of you there,

Erick

Event is coming up in 3.5 days, and I still can't figure out which deck to play. This should be a good tournament though...good competition (and a regionals champion to dethrone).

Also, I'm surprised there's no trash talking here yet. (~Erick, that's your cue to chime in )

Same problem here. It's still a few weeks away, but I haven't decided which of two decks I've been playing off and on I will use for the 'Moot. And if the Stark expansion drops in time, oh boy, than I'm really going to be in a turmoil about what deck to use.

Yeah, I'm undecided too. I may very well be building my deck the night before or morning of the tourney, lol.

When the Stark expansion drops, it will be an easy decision for me. The question is what to play until then?

At the moment, Lanni still seems like the all-around most competitive house. For people like me that would probably prefer to not play than play Lanni (that might be a slight exaggeration, but the thought of playing Lanni at a regionals does make me uneasy), Stark is a welcome change. I just hope I'm not overstating the affects of Stark on the environment....

Just a bit over an hour till game's begin......

Great Day of thrones. Dan and Erick thanks for hosting. Venue was excellent and we had a good crowd. :

I'm sure Erick and Dan will post a report later tonight and I'll leave the major spoilers to them. I will however give a few spoilers.

Participants: 13 (4 DC, 3 NY, 1, TN, 5 DE/PA)

Houses Represented:

Targ - 1

Baratheon - 1

Stark - 2

Greyjoy - 2

Lannister - 4

Martel -3

5 rounds then a cut to the final 4 table.

Final 4 houses were: Lannister, Targ, Baratheon, and Stark

I'm happy to say, I was running the stark house that made it to the final 4. I'll leave it to Erick and Dan as the hosts to announce the winner. I'll update more after they reply.

Great day of Gaming.

orclrob

Congrats Orclrob on the top 4 finish, esp with Stark. It was great meeting you and playing against you. Frozen Moat has been money at both Regionls I've attended so far. Well built deck and well played! Thanks again for coming up to our Regional.
