Would this work?

Messing about with Armada fleet builder with my son, and we came up with this evolved out of a lot of “what about....”

VSD2, Darth Vader, Minister Tua, Gunnery Team, D Caps, QBT, NK-7 Ion Cannons, ECM

Opening Salvo, Contested Outpost, Solar Corona.

Hardly competitive given their lack of mobility, but it just struck us that this would be quite funny to strip Defense Tokens as ships approached on the way in.

Does this list have any chance?

I've never used them, but I think @Darth Sanguis has had success with multiple NK-7 Ion Cannons.

Well, it can. I have a similar list that worked really well against the fleet it was paired against, I I can also see quite a few situations where it would have been left fairly helpless.

First my list:

Now, what it's good for and weak against:

This list is excellent at sinking large and medium ships. Especially if you manage 1st player. It is however super susceptible to MSU fleets and bombers. It would also likely have trouble with Large +MSU fleets, which can get very tricky with their deployment/activation advantage.

Personally, I had fun with mine. It chewed through 2 motti ISDs and 2 Motti VSDs, but they were pretty much bare bones.

You do need second player and trio of objectives that force engagement.

Station Assault, Contested Outpost and Salvage Run.

What else would you suggest? Salvage run at least drops obstacles the opponent has to get through to get to you, and easy scoring on your side of the board.

There's Solar Corona, but I think that can backfire with open spaces ships can fire across while they slow-roll towards you. VSDs want their opponents to close, Solar Corona just inconveniences anyone on the approach and not necessarily all the time.

Yes, but A. 2 of them are dust fields, and B. Literally every ship in the game right now has an easier time not hitting obstacles than a VSD.

It’s a tough question. Maybe Minefields? It can be turned against you with Strategic, but denies about half the play area if you place for it (you can also deny Strategic shenanigans by placing the station + one other obstacle on your corners with the mines.)

It is difficult, but I believe Solar Corona is the best. with only 4 deployments, you will have a hard time. Pick Solar Corona, and get tired of playing it every single game because you will play it every single game. Also harder to pick off your brace token
