8 Turn Game ! (Yes, you read that correctly.)

By Tim Kelly, in Runewars

Played a 3-player game last night using all but the Humans. The game was won by Waiqar in EIGHT TURNS!

I don’t remember every detail, but it went something like this…

Spring 1: “New Recruits” gives everyone plenty of extra troops.
Summer 1: Waiqar’s hero finds a Dragon Throne (Rune # 3), and completes a quest.
Fall 1: “Bountiful Harvest” helps everyone, and Waiqar activates her city to receive 3 Influence, and picks up two more Influence from the standard Fall event.
Winter 1: Waiqar executes “Acquire Power”, and buys the “Captain of the Heroes League” Title card.
Spring 2: “New Recruits” again. Everyone has plenty of units. Wish we could have used them….
Summer 2: Waiqar moves her hero back home, and reveals a “Timorran Shard” (Rune # 4), and activates her City again for more Influence.
Fall 2: Waiqar executes “Acquire Power”, buys another Title card, and reveals the “Political Control” Objective Card for Rune # 5. She also picked up two more influence from the standard Fall event.

Over the past few turns, the other two players have begun moving in on Waiqar, and a “Favor of the Warriors’ Guild” Tactics card (which lets them each remove one of their Activation Tokens from the board) has set them up to each take a Rune-holding or Dragon Throne hex from Waiqar. Except…..

Winter 2: The “Dragon Rune Discovery” event turns up, and Waiqar has one more Rune than either of the other two players. Rune # 6 and GAME OVER.

I don’t know if this feat will ever be duplicated or surpassed, but I know for sure the Waiqar player will never be able to do this again, because…we killed her right after the game. And tore the game to pieces. And set fire to the house. And then we killed each other.

I've won in six with the uthuk. It definately involved a dragon throne and a shard, as well as an easy secret(discard cards) and the winter card that gives everyone but the low bidder a rune.

I actually really struggled to have enough spaces to put my runes in.

You are now ready to play the Epic version of the game which should actually be called the normal version. :)

Yeah I play the epic version whenever I'm not teaching the game to newbs.

I always play up to 8 dragon runes, but ignore the other epic rules.
