Number of ships in a squad

By Icelom, in X-Wing

In the rules, and rules reference there is no mention of a number of ships in a squad cap there is however in the tournament regulations

"Squad Building Each player must build one squad to use in a tournament. A squad cannot exceed 200 points, though it may contain fewer than 200 points. A legal squad list contains between 2 and 8 ships from a single faction."- page 3 of the tournament regulations.

However the offical squad builder lets you put 10 in.

Any idea on if the tournament regulation sheet just did not have that part changed when they moved to 2.0 or do you think its just missing in every other location.

As a person that runs tournaments this is going to be an absolute ***** to deal with as very few players have read and internalized the tournament regulations document and everything else they have access to allows them to run 10 ships.

Any guesses? If this all stays without something changing i think i would have to allow it if someone showed up with an official list builder printout with 10 vultures. "actually this more obscure document says your list is illegal and you cant play even though the rules and the squad builder allow it" is just something i cant see me saying to someone.

I say give it time to stabilize. The RRG hasn't been updated yet to reflect any changes from Wave III. The points PDF's just got updated minutes ago as of me typing this. There appear to be more updates being pushed to the official squadbuilder as well (Ships missing from Variant formats, etc).

Based on how buggy the app has been, we have no way of knowing until the rules guide is updated as to whether they intend to let more than 8 ships in a list or not.

Or, for all we know they wanted to make it an 8 ship cap and will just give up rather than change the app... just like the half points fiasco where they changed it based on what the app did rather than what the tourney rules said.

Tournament regulations page 3 bottom right corner under Squad Building. A legal squad contains 2-8 ships from a single faction.

There are some rules that only apply to tournaments, Id say if the official squad builder app allows it then it’s perfectly legal for casual play. You don’t have to play against it if you don’t want to.

The squad builder hasn't had the min-max rule applied to it since it's release if i recall correctly. You can also have a list that has only 1 ship in it, which isn't allowed either. There hasn't been any question about the legality of that since the app released. A legal squad is 2-8 ships of the same faction, until the rule is changed in the Tournament Regulations.

Keep in mind the ship limit is set by the tournament regulations, not the core rulebook. I'm sure there's a casual scene for X-Wing somewhere, to which that limit would not apply.

Even if it was in the core rulebook, the casual scene can do what they want.
