Fishing gear for ideas for our next episode

By bsmith23, in Game Masters

I posted this on Facebook but I'm checking here too.

In our previous episode, the crew barely escaped the empires occupation of the space station they were on. They escaped in an imperial shuttle, leaving their own ship (and some npcs they are very attached to) behind in lockdown. If they abandon the ship, we will move on to Onslaught at arda, but theres a good chance they will try to get their ship back. So im just looking for suggestions to make the adventure a little more interesting. What shall I throw at them?

Heres a little more info.

I ran their escape as a rewite of Dawn of Defiance episode 1. They took with them an Imperial defector frozen in carbonite. As they were leaving, their BBEG , Blackhole showed up to occupy the station and capture the defector. Its funny, they are always gung ho, take the fight to them types, but everytime I hint at him showing up, they turn and run faster than womp rats on a sinking sail barge.

I realized that after I read your first post. I was about to talk about the time my PCs caught a dianoga by spot-welding hooks to their Mandalorian and tossing him into the water with a winch cable around his waist.

*Slowly puts away fishing gear*

On a serious note;

If they want to try and get their ship back, you could set it up like Ep:IV when they have to get the Falcon out of the Death Star. There is a tractor beam/blockade/other kind of obstacle keeping them from just taking the ship and leaving. So, they can try and fight their way out if they want to, or they can go about shutting down the system(s) to make their escape easier. You could have this Blackhole character patrolling the area and doing various things that would be standard for what a BBEG would be doing. Maybe he's actively trying to find them, so they also have to worry about covering their tracks.

They could also be tasked with stealing a new ship or otherwise trying to recover something from their old ship if recovering the whole thing is ruled out, so they have some reason to not just grab any ole transport and hit the road.

Totally came here excited to hear about fishing lol.

If it helps, we actually did a fishing minigame in one of my missions. The gang needed some food to supplement their rations and so one of them decided to make a fishing rod and catch some fish in a nearby stream.

first, he made a Survival check to make the fishing rod, and the quality ended up being not great, so he took a black die on later checks.

Then, he made a stealth check to get up to the bank without disturbing any fish (he's a little bothan, so he did it with glorious success) and banked his Triumph for later.

He sat down and made a perception check to make his cast, which he passed and got his lure out a good ways without tangling it on anything.

So he sat for a few minutes and waited. Until finally, I made him make a discipline check to set the hook. He used up his triumph here to make it a success disadvantage so he got a big fish that was threatening to break his rod.

He made an athletics check, a coordination check, and another discipline check and with some successes and failures, still managed to land himself a nice Onderonian Large Mouth Bass. I glossed over the other casts and just said that with a great first catch, he quickly fell into routine and caught several more so they didn't have to spend rations that night for dinner or the following morning for breakfast.

I ended up writing out some basic rules in case it happens in the future just for the lulz and honestly, we had a lot of fun doing that segment!

I came up with a few ideas. I tried to tie it to fishing, but the best I got was they hitch a ride with some mercs going to re-supply the station and the haul is fishing gear. For these I'm assuming your group is a playing AoR.

  • The stolen Imperial Shuttle they used to escape previously is the Shuttle Tydirium from ROTJ. Do the players take it to Rebel High Command and ditch their ship or risk going back to the station and losing the shuttle?
  • Just as the PCs start to make headway an L3-37 style droid riot breaks out on the station.
  • The occupying force accidentally(?) damages a critical system on the station - gravity / heat / water / electricity.
  • A classic - the hyperdrive on their ship has been disabled and must be repaired before they can leave the system.
