Inferno Squad

By Manchester, in Star Wars: Legion

Does anyone think it is possible that inferno squad and Iden Versio could be added to Legion, seeing how she is now in X wing and destiny. Would be a cool addition.

Literally anything is possible, the only limiting factor is what Disney will approve.

There can be some pretty labyrinthine licensing deals, once you cross over into these various things. I have no idea what the contracts say in this case. But theoretically you could have an artist, publisher, illustrator, or someone else, with the power to veto something like that. It's killed cool stuff before, and will again.

Very true, it could be that the licensing deal with EA and Disney gives EA veto on the use of characters they contribute to Star Wars.

Regardless, outside of the limitations of the licensing deal, literally anything is possible. Technically FFG could release a unit of Luke Skywalker riding a Tauntaun riding a Rancor riding an AT-AT. The balance might be wonky, but they COULD do it. It's also ridiculously unfeasible for them to produce a Death Star miniature for Legion, but they COULD.

Or that FFG has to pay them a 2nd licensing fee. I personally suspect the reason most of the SW keychains and junk are/were of R2, Yoda, etc. was so that they didn't have to pay an actor again for the use of their likeness.

So much this. But we do know that at least some of the actors from the OT did not initially have likeness rights. Carrie Fisher signed away the rights for Leia to George Lucas. I doubt the new actors are quite that naive.

Well, she managed to veto at least one Kenner toy that she found unflattering in 1982. And those were the days when other than Kenner, it seemed like all merch was of R2, Vader, etc. If anything we get a lot more merch of Finn and whomever than we did of Luke and Leia.

You can give Lucas the rights to "Leia" but there's always legal grounds for something or other. Bela Lugosi's widow managed to sue a LOT of people for using "his" likeness on generic vampire products.

It is possible we could get the named members as operatives and then a "generic" inferno squad but I think they would be too similar to death troopers in role.

If Lucasfilm’s deal with a Hasbro is anything to go by, LFL retain the rights to all characters, artwork, concepts, 3D models and likenesses to everything the licensee creates. If EA and Lucasfilm’s relationship comes to an end in 2020 (when their deal expires) LFL can probably continue to produce toys, models and stories based on those characters.

At the very least, there might be some quid pro quo going on as EA did use the Raider that FFG developed for x-wing. @mini78 is probably right, if a liscencee creates something, Lucasfilm then owns it.

As to inferno squad mechanically, there is a chance it could work like this:

you pay for the initial model, in this case, Iden Versio, she comes with a personnel and a heavy slot. Personnel is Gideon Hask, and Heavy is Del Meeko. I'm leaving out Seyn Marana as she died prior to the game story.

Now this isn't perfect, but, it lets you emulate the missions where you have only one character, and can then get the whole squad.

There is also a chance that each member of inferno squad could be their own character, and operate independantly, or interact simialar to the upcoming detachment rules, or even new mechanics.

Lucasfilm isn't going to let some piddling artist dictate what characters they can use, they learned their lesson after the Tonnika sisters. Christopher Lee didn't even manage to have veto power over his likeness in Star Wars art when he managed to keep it for art of Saruman.

What toy was it? This is the first I've ever heard of that happening.

Seem like a shoe-in squad to give Imps an infiltrate unit.

Kenner Micro Collection. Deathstar Escape.
