Adventures on Jedha

By Andreievitch, in Game Masters

I recently introduced Saw Garerra to my AoR campaign, set shortly before Rogue One. Long story short, we are at the last chapter of Friends Like These and I had Saw assassinate the Zygerrian Prince, and the players have now recruited Saw and his Partisans for the Battle of Xorrn.

Once the module is done, I would like the PCs to play on Jedha for a few games. They know the Empire are mining crystals there, but they aren't sure why. I am gathering ideas for games, and I would love to hear some suggestions from the brains trust!

Here are some ideas I have already:

  • "Dungeon Crawl" style game where they find a back door into a mine and investigate
  • Liberating slaves (a couple of them have duties along those lines)
  • A mission where their objectives don't align to Saw's, tension flares and social/physical battle could come to head

The last game on Jedha will see a large shadow appear over the planet as the DS-1 arrives...

Hit me up with any other ideas!

TIA.

I like the Dungeon Crawl idea as there has to be some awesome ruins on Jedha. What about finding the entrance to an ancient complex that is near the bottom of one of those mega Jedi colossus that have fallen over? They can find a series of these and discover something about the Temple of the Whills maybe. Then take the adventure into the city at some point.

When I have played near on-screen events, I've always tried to get something in there that let's the players know they actually affected what we saw on screen.

  • Was the Star Destroyer already above the city when we first see Jedha, or did it arrive during the movie? If the later, was it's arrival directly influenced by something we saw on screen? If not, have the PC's actions lead to the Empire deploying more assets to the city. At first, your PCs may only be fighting Imperial Army troopers. But, the PCs actions eventually lead to a Star Destroyer and thus its Stormtrooper legion showing up. That way the PCs get a "cool" moment when they realize they are the ones that caused the SD to show up. "Hey that was us! we caused that!"
  • You of course need to have the PC's rescuing people when the Death Star arrives. Since the planet was not completely destroyed, you could even have them racing away to a safe spot outside the blast range instead of making the on-screen hyperspace jump in near orbit. Racing in an airspeeder away from the blast and ducking into some cover behind a mountain makes it feel different then just a rehash of the on-screen scene.
  • Crystal heist.

I'd say that the only problem with that is that the Deathstar's super laser blasted that area into oblivion.

Excellent suggestions @Sturn Thank you!

In that case, you're golden; at least until the Deathstar shows up. 😈

Oh, it will :)

I would run at least an adventure as an urban crawl. Opposite factions killing each other on the streets, while you try to do your best helping Saw or just pushing your own objectives (as Duty/Obligation). Perhaps helping Saw goes against your Duty.

Perhaps as a preparation for the Crystal Heist suggested by Sturn.

Here is what I am thinking:

  • Once "Friends Like These" is over, Saw will be requesting a return "favour" from the PCs
  • The favour will be helping him do a Kyber Crystal jump on an Imperial shipment to learn more about here they are sending them. The PCs recently built a cap ship, so they will love the chance for some piracy. Meanwhile they will learn that Saw is a pretty nasty guy, and Rebel HQ will warn them to be cautious, but work with him to gain insights into his operations, and get intel on Jedha.
  • After that they will want to investigate Jedha to see what the **** is going on. Streetwise etc, skirmish with Imperials, Saw comes to help, civilian casualties, PCS learn Saw is a nasty piece of work.
  • Learn of a "backdoor" into the mines - dungeon crawl
  • Destroyer suddenly departs, and large moon sized shadow appears...BOOM and escape.

This will prob go over 3 games I am thinking.

Could Rescue at Glare Peak be adapted to Jedha?

This has an association with Saw Gerra....

but im planning to run a story where the characters assassinate Quarsh Panaka.

According to wookiepedia...Panaka was assassinated on saw’s orders after Panaka became a imperial moff.

That is a pretty good idea. Maybe Saw gives them the order to do so, and then the Rebels get pissed off with the PCs as it screwed up what Leia was trying to achieve?

That's not a bad idea. The detention centre could easily be moved to have been built under Jedha city. Perhaps it is where the Imperials detain the mine workers, and other city prisoners?

Otherwise, the game could easily be moved from Trivar II to Jedha.

I like it!
