I've been considering getting two, one for display and one fr game.

You should absolutely do this! ...then send me the cards from your second one.

I'm not excited to look on eBay after this thing drops.

I have a whole two car garage as my man cave....lol. Got a display shelf ready for it already. 😊

I always keep all my duplicates...you never know when something will get lost, damaged, etc.

DL: Hey dudes, I have an entire two-car garaged as my dedicated man-cave!
DL: Hey dudes, I'm buying two SSDs, so I can have one just for lookin' at one just for touchin'!
IN: Oh, cool, could I maybe buy your duplicate unique upgrades?
DL: Uh, no, 'cuz in the incredibly rare scenario where something happened to one of my cards but not to my collection at large, I want to have those spares laying around. Gosh, I'd hate to have to do something indulgent and excessive like buy an extra SSD I don't really need!

🤣

Have they said whether the SSD uses the front or rear base when maneuvering?

in this vid I show what happens if you move it from the front :P

Basically, it sort of reconfirmed a lot of my worries about the SSD and the biggest reason I had always been opposed to the idea of it in all of the speculation threads: the fewer ships that are on the board, the less tactically interesting the game of Armada becomes. Especially when one player's entire force is a single ship, basically, and the game is "will I keep my SSD alive and win this game, or will the opponent do enough damage to it that I lose?" There's no target priority decisions or choices for the SSD's opponent. There's no cat-mouse of which ships the Imp player will activate in what order, it's just will they use their pass or not. I'm sure lots of folks will love having the SSD on the board, but given my own play preferences, I don't see games involving it really improving the parts of Armada that I love, but rather supplanting a lot of what I love about Armada (all the choices upon choices during each Round) with more pile-of-dice gaming. This of course is not to say that there aren't any choices or tactical decisions with an SSD on the board, but there are certainly far fewer of them than when there are more ships on the board.

NOTE: also, in defense of the SSD player, just plodding along at 1-Forward was often the best choice because of squadron overlaps. If the SSD overlaps a bunch of squadrons, the Rebel player has a huge base with which to tactically distribute squadrons. When a squad gets overlapped by an SSD, it can almost teleport across half the map, given how long the base is.

now I have had the time to think about how the battles went on the day I agree with what you have said above. the only way this problem will be fixed is if the SSD comes with new Objectives to make a more interesting/high stakes game. trouble we had was trying to remember everything the ship can do so we didn't pick a fun Objective. It would also be interesting to see to see how it would go as first player.

I also have a feeling that there may be another rule about Squadron overlaps coming as if you run over one of your own its don't for 2-3 rounds. does not feel very thematic.

well if 2 SSD's becomes meta in the 1200 point level then its money well spent :P :P :P

Seeing I have actually lost cards before, because I'm always taking my stuff places....yeah, I'm keeping my spares. Don't be hating, now! 😆

As far as indulgent and excessive....lol. I spent 21 years in the military risking my life to earn my pension....so I'll spend it how I wish, thank you! 😁

I’m having a sudden flash of the first SSD on SSD match.

The refined elegance and depth of strategy expected brings rochambeau to mind.

I think so, too! We house ruled that every base counted for itself. So if you overlap a squadron with the rear base you have to redeploy it touching the rear base, not the front base. Then overlapping isn't much of weird worm-hole-space-journey issue.

For deployment we also decided that only the rear base counted to be in deployment zone and for measuring distance when deploying squadrons.

I would be glad if huge ships would also ignore the effects of overlapping objects. That would give some freedom for movement and wouldn't award sitting at the station.

That would make the Interdictor with Grav Shift so sad...

I think it's 22+ hull and high engineering is the special rule that allows it to "ignore" overlapping objects ;)

Projector Misaligned would be more funny one dial gets rid of Power Failure and your good to go. Losing all 6 shields on the front in the first or 2nd round if placed to close to your opponent would be harder to recover from I think

even better would be Dodonna giving you both from 2 rocks you land on at the same time in the first round due to poor flying :P

Asteroids don't concern me Commander. I want that ship, not excuses.

Oh, how he changes his tune when he’s involved! They concern him there 😁

I dont feel like the SSD will be super dominant. I think it will have a good list or two but for how big it is I just dont see it being meta nominating, and even if it becomes that way I think this ship will be an SSD killer.

MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63)
• Intel Officer (7)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• Rapid Reload (8)
• H9 Turbolasers (8)
• Admonition (8)
= 98 Points

They can take Tua and ECMs to get around this but with how large your base is I'll just put B-wings in front of you and that will be a nightmare as well.

The SSD is so big its just going to be so easy to double arch and will almost always be overlapping squadrons/obsticals. I could be wrong, but I just don't see it being super dominant, as if it ever does I feel the meta will just shift and adapit to take it out.

With 3 officer slots damage control officer is a problem.

Maybe, but those officer slots are pretty valuable. You probably need one for commands (so a SFO/Support Officer), one for something offensive (Intel Officer, Emperor Palpatine, Agent Kallus) and that leaves one for defence (Captain Brunson, Minister Tua, DCO) - unless you're going for a super-tanky SSD and so double or triple up on defensive upgrades. But if you're doing that nothing should be able to kill it.

I like the supper Defensive one with Brunson Tua and Advanced Projectors. Its a fun nut to crack :P

„Prepare a boarding Party!“ Just bring Vader. You know, the other. At least he might be usefull once.

Any chance someone has dimensions they could share for the firing arcs on the SSD? I have a prototype base I made, but looking around I can’t find arc measurements anywhere. Did you just eyeball the arcs based on photos/vid of SSD or does someone actually have some numbers, hoping to playtest this with a buddy this weekend!

Not yet. But the only playable possibility is to use the notch of the rear base.

Yes they have. It is a rear base to move
