So, it occurs to me that Regional season has started. This past weekend, the LCG Mega-event at the FFG Events Center was the first AGoT Regional of the season, which lasts the next two months....

...and no one has said anything about it?!?

Usually by now, we're in a wash of "good luck" messages, "what was the field?" messages and even "who won?" messages.

Was it just a busy weekend for the board community, did everyone travel to MN and thus wasn't around to post, or are we - as a community - just not as interested?

Oh, BTW: What was the field like? Who won?

I meant to respond in the other thread about the event yesterday, but I think I got sidetracked answering the question about seasons decks. I was really curious to know what the field was like though and what happened. Can anyone else who was there give some perspective on the player who was disqualified for having an illegal deck (story in the main AGoT)? It sounded like a bad situation, though the person who posted it here has never posted kind things about AGoT.

I am not sure what you mean I have never posted kind thing about AGoT. I have never posted anything about this game. My only post was about what things to buy to get started in the game and people where very helpful with that. I personally like this game a lot and want to get into it more.

Oops, sorry, looking back, I see that I confused you with another poster who had the same avatar as you and posted something with a similarly bitter tone to your "Glad to see that game of thrones wants new players." I am sorry to hear about your friend's experience, but I would like to hear a version from a more neutral party because it's hard for me to picture someone from the AGoT playing community acting so much like a M:tG player. I believe that your friend made an honest mistake and got a bad deal, but perhaps he said something that unknowingly gave the wrong impression (of some kind of wrongdoing) to the more experienced player. Sorry again about the previous comment - I actually responded to your first post and you did say kind things there ; )

I was playing the other Greyjoy deck. Although it ran Winter, it wasn't truly a "Winter" deck as the deck didn't require Winter, but it did work well when I made it winter. King Blith's deck was a variant of mine he say how I was wrecking the local meta, and tried his best to copy it. The big difference is that I actually run Fleeing in my Deck. And I kept telling my meta to run Fleeing. And it was funny to see Greg win another regional with a deck that used so many locations and never was threatened with Fleeing just like when he attended the MN regionals back in '07.

When the Princes of the Sun set came out, i took out most of 1 STR cards for 2 STR card Drumbeater for First Mate, that kind of thing. First round I played Seth, a player from our meta that is on the same leve as me. He was running Bara rush, and I got a decent 4 card flop against him. We were both pretty evenly matched after the end of the first round, thoguh I had character advantage (and nothing really fancy for chaacters). Idecided to Fear of Winter, figuring I could draw into a good card. He dropped Valar which I didn't expect as my board wasn't much better than his. Unfortunately, I had no characters in hand and didn't draw any. Same with the next round, and in the fourth round I finally drew a character Asha who, had I played her, would have died anyway to his Military challenge, so essentailly I managed to do nothing in the first game. Already saddled with the "curse" of always losing at amjor events, I was pretty pissed at losing in less than 10 minutes.

Second round, thanks to the bye, and got paired up to a winner in the first round. Again, another player from my meta. Shad was running Stark Night's Watch, and it was the first time I played against his deck. I got a strong 5 card flop, and had complete control of the game from the start. He played Time for Ravens to get his White Raven, but never actually played it since I had Theon and Wintertime Marauders on the board. This game was the opposite of my first, and I don't remember much other beating the snot out of his deck. He was pissed, because we knew that going 2-1 would be tie breakers for finals.

Third round I played Matt (ASongofI&FFan) and his Martell deck. This was a much closer game, and I though I had a good chance of winning this one. We kept neck and neck most of the game, but he was always just a little ahead of me, and I couldn't quite get the win. I'm not sure, but this might have been the game where, having made it Winter, my opponent played Winter Festical for the two power to win the game. I may consider it cheese, but it is legal cheese and a legitimate win nonetheless.

So, going 1-2, I came in 6th place. Shad came in 5tth place, and Brad and Seth both made top 4 (and played each other). Blith already went over what happened there. Although I did much worse than I had expected, I still had a good time.

I didn't play Winter Festival in my deck, but otherwise you pretty much nailed it, JJ. It was a tightly contested game the whole way. I ended up finishing you off the conventional way, but don't remember my exact move. I wish I lived closer to you guys so we could play more regularly, but in the end I had fun too.
