Stele strikers

By Droidlover, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Tomorrow I’m doing my first tournament since 2.0 was released. It’s hyperspace. I’m thinking of the following list. How do you think it would do against other hyperspace lists out there?

Stele Strikers

(46) Maarek Stele [TIE Advanced x1]
(2) Fire-Control System
(8) Shield Upgrade
(1) Marksmanship
(5) Cluster Missiles
Points: 62

(34) Planetary Sentinel [TIE/sk Striker]
Points: 34

(34) Planetary Sentinel [TIE/sk Striker]
Points: 34

(34) Planetary Sentinel [TIE/sk Striker]
Points: 34

Points: 34

Total points: 198

Oh boy, I have no idea. It looks solid on paper. Lots of dice, good maneuvering. But mods are wanting

Agree, Strikers have a habit of loosing it all on terrible rolls. I really like the concept of this list because I want more from the Tie X1 than just Vader so I had to make 2

List 1 MOAR MODS 199

Elusive 3
Fire-Control System 2
Afterburners 6
Ship Total: 57
Half Points: 29 Threshold: 3
“Duchess” — TIE/sk Striker 42
Predator 2
Ship Total: 44
Half Points: 22 Threshold: 2
“Countdown” — TIE/sk Striker 44
Predator 2
Ship Total: 46
Half Points: 23 Threshold: 2
“Pure Sabacc” — TIE/sk Striker 44
Predator 2
Shield Upgrade 6
Ship Total: 52

Half Points: 26 Threshold: 3

List 2-Numbers R Better 197

Maarek Stele — TIE Advanced x1 46
Ruthless 1
Fire-Control System 2
Concussion Missiles 6
Afterburners 6
Ship Total: 61
Half Points: 31 Threshold: 3

I've not played your list, but I've run similar builds with an ace and generics. I think you'll have fun, but just mentally prepare yourself to have one "I" killed before it shoots. Because it'll undoubtedly happen at some point. If you can get past that you'll probably have a good time.

I did consider dropping the cluster for a couple of seismic charges on the strikers. But I usually forget that I have bombs.

So how did you do? What list did you end up taking?

Echoing some people above - I find Strikers just a bit too fragile (for my own play style) - Duchess with 5th Bro I can just about make work but naked generic strikers? I feel like I am signing their death warrant every time I field them XD

TBH - speaking with no practical experience on this list/build - I would drop cluster missiles and shield upgrade on Stele to equip bombs (flavour to taste) on some strikers. 8+5+2=15 = a mix of seismics and protons :)

For me at least, that feels like it is upping the threat level of the list somewhat.

Well I was greatly disappointed with this weekend. Unfortunately I was the only one who showed up for the tournament. So no X-Wing for me. 😕

What?! Where do you live? We need to get you to a healthier community.

I drove an hour to that store. It does have a small X-Wing group. But evidently they all had other things to do.

****... sorry mate. That's a tough break. Hope you get a full tournament next time.

@Droidlover

I'm not in your neck of the woods, but Chicago might be a good place to find tournaments with actual people.

It's about 2 hours away from you, but have you considered Pastimes Games ( 233 Golf Mill Drive Niles, Illinois) ? It's home to Gold Squadron . You likely aren't going to be there for their weekly game nights, but maybe you can make it to their tournaments? Dion + crew are very welcoming. Give it a shot. I want you to have a good experience and this is about as good as can be!

It does have Stele, and it does have a Striker so I'll post it here :P

Predator (2)

Maarek Stele (46)
Marksmanship (1)
Fire-Control System (2)

Major Vermeil (49)
Crack Shot (1)

Black Squadron Ace (26)

I've found that points are supreme in 2.0. The great thing about this list is that half points on them is pretty meagre. As long as you are taking a big fat juicy point sponge early on, I think you could do well! Shame no-one showed to the event. Do your local stores have a Facebook Group? I've been able to drum up interest through that medium when running tourneys!

Gah! That's such a bummer! Hope you can get some games in. I lived in West Lafayette for 7 years, and we had a booming X-wing scene (though I think that all evaporated after I graduated and moved away).

As to your original squad, I think you have a good thing going. But Maarek is the automatic first target, so you have a couple of options.

  1. Hold him back so your strikers engage first. I'm not too keen on this, because when you bring 5 ships, you want all 5 ships shooting that first round. If you can range control well enough to leave one of the opponent's ships out of range, maybe you can get away with it.
  2. Variation on a theme: flank with Maarek. I might switch in Afterburners instead of Shield Upgrade if this is your strategy.
  3. You could drop Maarek's mod altogether to turn one of the sentinels into Duchess + Predator. This is really nice because you have two i5 pilots that can play off each other, and it makes it harder for your opponent to know who to target first. Unfortunately, this puts you at an even 200 points; it's up to you whether to drop the Cluster Missiles or not for a bid.
