TIE/vn Silencer and Primed Thrusters

By PolsVoiceful, in X-Wing Rules Questions

Hello, quick question if a certain combo works/does not work.

The Silencer's ship ability reads "Autothrusters: After you perform an action, you may perform a red boost or a red barrel roll action."

Primed Thrusters reads "While you have 2 or fewer stress tokens, you can perform boost and barrel roll actions even while stressed."

Ok, here is the scenario:

Silencer performs the focus action, then links to a boost due to ship ability. Then, with the wording of Autothrusters, you can perform another boost or barrel roll off the boost action, but obviously not another boost. So does primed thrusters allow for the barrel roll, since at this point you would only have one stress token from the linked action, to link again and complete a barrel roll ending up with two stress tokens?

Autothrusters reads that these are red boost and barrel roll actions, but primed thrusters does not specify what type of boost or barrel roll is allowed, just that it is possible to perform a boost or barrel roll with 2 or fewer stress.

Thanks for taking time to read my question!

Yes this works just fine

Primed Thrusters does not specify a color for the action like some other cards do. You can do a red boost or barrel roll while you have 2 or less stress tokens. You perform the action, then you receive the stress. A Silencer with a stress token and primed thrusters on it could do a focus, then use autothrusters to do a red barrel roll action and receive a 2nd stress, and then use autothrusters again to do a red boost and then end up with 3 stress tokens, but after that it will have to clear a stress if it wants to keep performing actions.

"A Silencer with a stress token and primed thrusters on it could do a focus, ..." ? nah, i don't think so, mate. no focus action if it's stressed. ;)

it could start out with no stress, do a red maneuver and use pattern analyzer to focus and then perform a boost or barrel roll action via autothrusters, ending up with two stress. but if it had pattern analyzer it couldn't have primed thrusters as well since it only has one tech slot.

also worth mentioning is that it's rarely viable to have more than one stress on a ship, since you're probably missing your action on the next round, or at least limiting it to boost/barrel roll if you're running primed thrusters. you could always just do it in a squad with muse, though.

It could however start with one stress do a white move then boost and roll in either order.

Thank you for the clarification!

I'm only using this combo to help double position a silencer, namely recoil. The list i'm running is as follows:

Recoil

Marksmanship

Primed Thrusters

Total:68

Quickdraw

Fanatical

Special Forces Gunner

Fire Control System

Pattern Analyzer

Shield Upgrade

Total:70

Midnight

Fanatical

Pattern Analyzer

Afterburners

Total:57

List Total:195

Originally, I did not have afterburners on midnight to lower the bid to 189, but some testing seems to favor it a little in my play style. The other route I have tried is a skinny Quickdraw, basically removing shield upgrade and pattern analyzer to advanced optics, for a total list cost of 188. Again, not sure if have a huge bid is good or bad, and with recoil at an I4, makes some matches rather difficult. I know this is more of the rules forum, but any critique would be much appreciated!
