The Sabacc Inquisition

By Droidlover, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I took this to the gaming store tonight. I love strikers and the TIE advanced V1, so I wanted to try something with both of them.

200pts

Sabacc, elusive, fifth brother, shield upgrade, seismic charge

(X3) Inquisitor, cluster missiles, fire-control system

My opponent was a low skill flyer (great guy though). He flew Guri, Prince Xizor, Victor Hel. I won with only losing one shield on Sabacc and one shield on an Inquisitor. I know this wasn’t a good test of the squad, but what benefits and drawbacks do you see in this build? What changes might you make?

You might consider swapping cluster missiles out for ion missiles-that way you always roll 3 dice against printed agility (range 1 primary attack; range 2-3 ion missile).

OK - these are only my opinions lol - but 1) I love these ships too! ... so, 2) I'd love to make some comments :D

Sabaac loves the shield upgrade. 5th bro is an interesting choice, as the force token provides good utility (especially alongside elusive). The obvious positive is the action economy of everyone having a force token per turn. I agree with sthej to swap cluster missiles out for ion missiles. This also frees up 3 points, which you could use to give one Inquisitor heightened perception to shoot at i7 if required?

The major drawbacks are the low initiative values and relatively low ship count. If Sabaac pops early, you're in a bit of a bind. Sabaac with all the upgrades is also a large chunk of your list, especially noting how fragile he is. I'm also not sold on Elusive on Sabaac, as to recharge it you need to perform 1 of 3 red moves which costs you actions and your ailerons next turn.

How about:

“Duchess” (42)
Predator (2)
Seismic Charges (3)

“Pure Sabacc” (44)
Marksmanship (1)
Shield Upgrade (6)

Grand Inquisitor (56)
Fire-Control System (2)

Inquisitor (38)
Fire-Control System (2)
Ion Missiles (4)
Total: 200

This gives you more red dice and increases squad initiative values. Additionally, all 4 ships are reasonably close together in points cost. Duchess, with her ability to use or not use ailerons (even while stressed) makes her a great bomb platform. She'll also benefit from Predator as it shouldn't be too hard to line people up in arc given how maneuverable she is. Sabaac is very cost efficient here. Shield upgrade is a must IMO for him, and marksmanship will help him add hurt with those 4 red dice. Grand Inquisitor is i5 with 2 force tokens - nice offensive and defensive options. The Inquisitor with ion missiles has the 3 red attack dice sthej pointed out earlier and can be a nice blocker/use ion missiles to control any tricky enemy pieces if needed (FCS and force + 3 red dice + maybe a focus = you should be able to stick an ion token on something not blessed by the green dice God).

If you fly this list or similar against other opponents, let us know how you get on! :)

3 Inks with Instinctive Aim and Homing missiles (they take a focus for defense) fits nicely with Sabacc with Predator, 5th Bro, Seismics, and SU. Alternatively, my preference would be 3 Inks with FCS and SR, and Sabacc with Pred and 5bro! Just more fun with the pre-move shenanigans
