Separatists or Republic

By Skitch_, in X-Wing

IF I had the time for another faction, I would be playing CIS for sure. They are aesthetically pleasing, and I love their gameplay style.

Ehhhh, seems expensive to get into another faction though I am VERY tempted to sell of my FO faction as I just don't enjoy them and I don't like the new films.

Also on the two factions im really not sure which I prefer as both sides have ships I like and ships I dont.. Maybe I will just wait a year or so and see if what the new ships are like.

I love the look of the droid fighters but they seem really fragile and a bit rubbish... also I don't like the look of that beedlebub thing.

For the republic I kinda like the jedi fighters, am a bit of a Meh on the arc and reallllllly hate the V-19 torrents.. Am looking forward to the gunships though.. maybe that will be the tipping point.

Kidding about who is/isn't the bad guys aside (republic as a whole was mostly just defending itself until order 66, which can be blamed on Palpatine). I'm leaning towards republic myself, though separatists look better than I thought they would.

Since 2.0 came out I've been telling myself that I don't need to collect everything any more, I mostly play S&V so I could pick two or three of the other factions to mess around with and sell the rest of my stuff.

Then my wife showed interest in the game.

Not long after, my five year old is showing interest in the game.

Not so long after that, I've read preview articles that made both factions sound pretty fun.

Not so long after that, I've put in my preorder with my FLGS for $280 worth of Wave 3. At least they have a customer loyalty program and I had a little store credit left over from a tournament back in February.

Oof. Mine was I think $170, with one of everything except the Infiltrator, and one extra Vulture standalone. You get one of everything and an extra of each Squadron pack or something like that? 😜

...Might be worth buying into my FLGS's loyalty program just for this purchase <_<

Edit: Oh, and after the previews I'll be picking up the Infiltrator day 1 anyways, most likely 😂

I resolved from the beginning to just get into the Republic, though the previews for the CIS has made them look interesting.

Welp, I haven't been spending much in the last month or two so I have the cash and it seems like I'm going to get value out of it.

My order is two Guardians Packs ($80) one Aetherspite ($20), one ARC ($30), two Servants packs ($80), one Scimitar ($40), and one Vulture ($20).

Also threw in three more packs of card sleeves, I never have enough card sleeves.

I figure that out side of needing an extra ARC or Scimitar I should be pretty well set for most lists that I would want to run. I'm a big fan of Ace + swarmy/supporty stuff which both faction seem to be able to do.

Aaah I was wondering what that extra $10 might be. I’m needing to nab some more sleeves and probably more card sheets for my binder, too.

I foresee myself picking up another Republic ARC or three for paintjobs/generics, and likely a third Aethersprite (with half-priced V-19’s). If I can get a pair of the Adepticon Vultures, I think I’ll be content with 6? But if I want a second Belbalub... I’m okay with owning 8 Vultures 😜

And then there’s a pair of Spinny B-Wings, 2-4 Hyenas, a couple N-1’s, the Resistance Transport...

Slow down there haus, I'd bet that we still have at least five months before we get those.

Not long enough for my wallet with my current job situation 😂

I mean I literally started donating blood plasma to make sure I could pay for my preorder and Adepticon without cutting into our bills. 😶 😶

I was dead-set against buying into the new factions. I haven't even bought Conversion Kits for the sequel factions yet. But we are having our Evacuation of D'qar event next weekend, and I want to fly my First Order ships, so I am going to buy that kit tonight.

And then I realized: next variant event is going to be Battle of Coruscant or something in a couple months, and I'm going to want my own models to participate in that event. So it looks like I'll be buying into the Republic a little down the line after all. (So stoked for V-19 Torrents!!!)

I'm leaning on picking up 1 Guardians of the Republic pack, and then splitting one with a friend so he gets the extra Delta-7, and I get the V-19 Torrents, so I'll have 1 Jedi and 4 V-19's. That will be a good start.

I've never told myself this, lol. I know I wouldn't hold true to it.

That's awesome!

My nine year old loves it now and wants to play every night. My five year old is starting to show interest as well and always wants to fly the Ghost. Sadly, I don't think my wife will ever be interested.

Interestingly, I read all the preview articles and still wasn't very interested in either faction. Then I watched the live play earlier this week and that all changed. I still haven't preordered anything for the Republic because I can't afford two new factions at the same time but I ended up preordering some stuff from the Separatists: 1 Servants of Strife, 1 Vulture Droid, 1 Infiltrator and may get another Vulture or Servants of Strife, or both. So, because of the live stream on Tuesday I went from not caring about either faction to preordering $100 worth of stuff with plans to pick up more and starting to look at Republic more.

And I just realized I need to find a better storage solution for what is soon to be my 5.5 factions (still haven't converted my FO).

I was interested in the Republic because the Aetherspite's looked fun, so I was just going to do them. Then a couple more Separtist previews came out and I watched the live stream. They got me hook, line, and sinker when Alex commented that the Separtist are like a Scummy swarm. (S&V has been my favorite faction since they were released.)

I have one plano tacklebox that stores most of my small/medium ships and dials. I think I am going to buy a second one in the not so distant future so I'll have eight trays plus the roomy top to handle seven factions worth of stuff. I am getting tempted to sell off my Rebel stuff though, I definitely play them the least.
