Separatists or Republic

By Skitch_, in X-Wing

Initially I was not at all interested in either new faction, even after all the announcements and articles. Now, not so much. The stream yesterday made the Separatists look too fun. The new Remote mechanics look like a blast and add a fresh new take on the game and the droids look really really distinct because of it. As such I am going to jump into the Separatist faction. I am still on the fence about even getting the Republic. But I am massively addicted to this game and will most likely get them eventually.

So I am wondering, to those of you who are going to buy into the new factions, which one are you leaning more toward first, and why? How many packs of each are you planning on picking up next Thursday? I am planning on getting an Infiltrator, one or two Servants of Strife and one or two Vulture droid packs depending on what upgrades are in each.

I’m not buying in because of faction totals that I possess.

But if I were, I’d go republic for Arcs and Jedi. The torrents don’t interest me.

I like the remote mechanics, I just don’t want to fly ultra squishy ships who only survive if they’re clumped in formations to pass calculates around

Themeatically? Republic. Gameplay? Mostly CIS, but Republic is looking more and more fun there as well.

Buying in pretty fully to both right off the bat 😁

Separatists for me. More interesting mechanics for my style of play and I love the synergy.

Republic looks like great fun but I'm limiting the number of factions I play moving forward, or at least trying to.

I'll get one of all the Separatists and get a bit crazy with Republic. There looks like a lot of fun there. Also lots of ways to fly the ships dependent on the list. I'm very excited for these expansions.

I've been wanting to fly Jedi Star-fighters in X-wing since before these factions were announced so picking one was pretty easy. Once I have my Republic ships, I'm interested to see what kind of stuff a group of clones can pull off without a Jedi leading the squad. That ARC preview had some interesting things in it. First game is probably going to be a triple Jedi squad though, because well they're Jedi.

EDIT: I never actually answered the whole question, oops. I'm doing 2 Squad packs and one each of the Delta-7 and ARC-170 packs. Planning on getting at least one more ARC eventually. With any luck, it will be fairly easy to use my Rebel ARC's as Republic ones.

I do like that aspect about the V-19s. Potentially being able to build them offensively or defensively and make them feel different and actually be offensive or defensive juggernauts is really interesting to me. I just hope that FFG will make both viable. The New ARC-170 pilots look really really cool too.

It just seems like you can tailor any sort of squad with this stuff and a couple different versions of the same sort of squad tweaked to a different style of flying. I like the idea of an entire squad of ARCs but I get the idea that just one of everything will get you a bunch of nice squadrons.

One of my complaints about Standard MtG is you can't go to the Sunday store tourney with a deck from a few retail products. You can't play the pre-release, get a fatpack and make a deck that won't un-competitively lose all your games. With this new wave it seems you can pick a faction, get one of each, and have multiple squads that you should at least feel like you were "in" all your games with.

I can't wait to get the stuff to see if it is as well done as the previews make me think it is.

Wasnt going to get either, but Republic is pulling me in. I love good aces, and Anakin and Obiwan and Ahsoka look legit and the Arcs revealed today all have good abilities to support the Aces. That faction is looking strong, as long as costs are not FUBAR like First Order

I'm planning to do what you're doing @Skitchx One Sith Infiltrator, two Servants of Strife and one more Vulture expansion (that'll give me 5 Vultures total--more than enough to start with).

Their appeal is more about the challenge to learn a new play style than any actual love for the faction. I can learn to love the faction, but the way they work together--the mechanics and tricks was an instant draw for me.

In my heart I lean Rebel/Jedi/Resistance but I have so much fun playing the baddies.

I'm going to buy into the Republic too, but that will have to wait a few weeks for my wallet to heal a bit; got to feed the kids too, not just my hobby!

I have been playing bad guys since I started, so as I finally get into 2.0 I'm going good guys: Republic. I have always liked the sleek look of the N1, and I like the idea of flying Jedi more than drones.

Now, when I play XWM, it seems I will be faced with the age-old Roman question:

Empire or Republic??

Pretty sure the faction that slaughtered most of the Jedi, and voted to become the Empire, are not the "good guys."

😛

Not that the Jedi were either...

Republic. With two ARC models already and two dials from the rebel conversion kit, I'll be able to run 3x Republic ARCs from a single $30 blister (and it only cost me $20+$20+$50 to get there!). Whether I can get all the gunners and such I'll need? Who knows.

I've also flown enough TIE v1 lately to be excited for Jedi. Aethersprite looks good, with stress-free reposition or a free Calculate (sorta) every turn.

Torrent seems like the coolest swarm ship to me, also. Higher hull hopefully reduces the variance, and their slow and weak dial is interesting. It'll come down to points, however.

The Grand Army of the Republic for me, can't wait to blast some clankers out of space.

For the Republic!

Republic. Clearly. It was always the Republic.

Until about halfway through the game. Then reveal yourself as a secret Sith all along...

"I want to drop a bomb in the system phase"

"I am the system phase!"

Since I'm already in on 5 factions, I probably won't dive into these two new factions, at least initially. That said I think the Separatists look like they have the most fun mechanics.

Waiting for points, but I may dip into Republic if costs are solid

I don't know. . . I think Rose is a probably a pretty fun mechanic to hang out with.

oooo...on second thought that reads badly. . .

Planning on taking apart some clankers!

I actually haven't been playing much for a bit but both of these factions have me really interested to play again... so maybe both? Probably Republic first, though. Some of my favorite ship designs are going to be in that faction.

I'll get both, eventually. Not super excited about the current crop of Republic ships, but I'm very much in for the Vulcher droids. Both factions I think I'll limit myself to just the ships that interest me most.

Hhhhhrrrrrrmrmmmmmmm........

I don't want to. I don't want to be tempted. I don't want to have even more difficulty deciding what to do on casual nights. Hrrrmmm....

I am a frustrated Scum-main, flying mostly Resistance when I get tired of being beat down. With a few Rebel and Imperial lists' worth of stuff on top of those two factions, because the Original Trilogy Matters. Do I need a fifth faction? A sixth? Hrrrrrrmmmmm.....

The CIS has all the jank that I wish Scum had. And the Republic has Jedi, as Jedi were meant to be.. Hhhhhrrrrmmmmm....

I am being drawn toward an all-in on the Republic. To go with my all-in Scum and Resistance, and half-in Rebel and Empire. I am seeking guidance within the Force, but the Force is strangely silent.
