My first custom miniature

By That Blasted Samophlange, in Star Wars: Legion

Started doing this for a school project, still have get it printed, but here is my (artistic) liscence rebdering of myself in miniature form.

I hope to work on more of these, starting with my gaming buddies, over the sunmer.

Posed in 3dsmax, and detailed/sculpted in 3dcoat.

The mini itself comes is weilding a K-16 Bryar pistol, custom vest with the rebel commander rank on his chest.

Did you give yourself an 8-pack?

Hah! Yes, I may have. If you're going to have delusions, you might as well have satisfying ones.

This is cool, is there a 360 view somewhere?

Great looking figure! Nice work.

I did put a video on the facebook legion terrain group. Can try to do one later.

I’ve always wanted to do this for myself, just I don’t have a 3d printer or any sort of skill with one

The skill comes with practice, I got a 3D printer together with a buddy for various terrain. Got inspired by various artists out there and started dabbling with Blender. And from zero knowledge I am now able to do terrain myself, and did some Moria inspired 25mm bases for LotR. Though I am still not able to do minis like this, but Samophlange really got me up to try and do some minis. Nothing good yet, but it's really fun trying. So I would say, just try it , and don't be dissapointed if it won't work well at the beginning, because you will always improve yourselve.

What would you suggest for a first 3d printer?

Well, my friend and me got a Pusa MK3 but that's about 800 bucks unassambled and is build in Czech Republic. Delivery was already expensive for me in Germany. A friend of mine got a cheaper(150 €) from China and is quite satisfied with it. Unfortunatly I can't remember the brand, but there are a lot of good forums out there, that can help you better.

As someone else mentioned, it is all about practice. There are a number of free programs, some cheap ones for a licence if you are serious - That is why I bought 3DCoat.

As with an art, again, practice, start with something small, and don't get discouraged! Your first project will likely look like crap, but learn from it, improve. There are so many videos and forums to peruse that you can learn from, but the best thing is to just do it!
