It would at least prevent the same divisive thread from being posted multiple times.

That might be a bit too optimistic. Redundancy happens. Sometimes it's useful to have a point repeated, other times, it's just annoying. In this case, it would probably be optimistic to assume it would stop being annoying because... redundancy happens. 😋

I want Jessica Beil in my bedroom every night when I get home from work dressed in a naughty teacher outfit, but some things are just not meant to be.

I've learned to soldier on despite my disappointment, one day so will you. Be Strong!

Set more realistic goals. Like maybe Jessica Fletcher .

I’m just sayin’...more realistic goals.

Never mind that Jessica Fletcher is a fictional serial killer who spent 264 episodes and 4 TV movies successfully framing others for her crimes.

It’s still a more attainable goal than getting Jessica Biel away from this guy

Or getting the OP to actually answer a straightforward question.

You know you can just tell them to use whats in the book, right? My gang and I just made a rule saying that nothing could be used which one of us did not own.

We've been building the collection up over time, so now we have a lot of the books. We stand by our rule, though, and anything we don't own or can't reasonably home-brew is banned from play. This keeps me as a GM having to workshop too much and also makes sure that the publishers still get paid (as a content creator, I know simply downloading is bad for business and I like what FFG does, so I want to support them where I can).

That would be my recommendation for salvaging the present campaign. Just pull the GM veto.

Yeah but that’s clearly not what they wanted. Why would I try to get them to play a game they didn’t want to play?

Then have each of them get a different one of the core books, each appropriate to the type of character they each want to play. It's that simple. If someone wants to play a Scoundrel, have him get EotE. If someone else wants to play a Force user, have him get F7D, and if someone wants to play a Rebel, have him get AoR. As long as the group as a whole has access to the three books, there should be no trouble creating a mixed party. Even if you only have one of the three, there is more than enough information here in these forums to provide the "missing" pieces needed to incorporate careers and specs from the other two into your game.

Once more, with feeling.

How, specifically, were they unable to play the types of characters that they wanted to using the EotE CRB?

The two recent generic Star Wars source books have given me hope that perhaps FFG will finally release a single book or product line that lets me run a Star Wars adventure for my friends.

I understand deeply the desire to make separate games about Star Wars.

In fact I tried to run edge of the empire years before it was released. I told all my freinds I was going to run a fringe crime noir Star Wars game. Set between episode 3 and 4

You know what happened?

i got two jedi, a frenger and a Rebel.

i was trying to make Star Wars a thing it wasn’t and my stupid campaign suffered for my ignorance. The players knew what Star Wars was. A group of characters with diverse backgrounds and motivations coming together and growing through that exposure to each other’s differences.

I enjoyed the edge of the empire starter set but never made the leap to the full game because heck I don’t want to learn three huge games to run something that looks like the Star Wars movies I like.

Fix this.

Yikes. That’s some large text.

It costs 60 bucks to get each core. You get how many hours of enjoyment out of that investment? I am not aware of a better entertainment deal. Things have been explained to you multiple times. Options have been given multiple times. At this point you are just whining.

We never bothered to try. Because if everything was in EOTE why would they advertise it as edge of the empire. Why would they make three separate lines if you can play anything with any of them?

My simple hope is that they are moving away from segregated lines and will follow this up with a paired Down core. I was never able to get my freinds intrested in the three core game.

No they arent moving away from seperate lines. They are just making era books fitnall lines. Wishfil thinking wont change that. You want it to be true. It isnt going to happen.

Agreed, at least with regards to the current edition. And most likely not with the any possible revised or second edition unless they ditch the baby with the bath water and make it a Genesys clone (which I find highly unlikely).

The three core book approach worked out very well financially for FFG, making the SWRPG line very profitable for them. Which seeing as how FFG is a for-profit company. The percentage of people like TylerTT that are belly-aching over not having a single corebook are in a distinct minority, and in terms of purchasing power don't amount to squat. For every one of his ilk, there's probably five or more folks that are okay with the multiple lines, simply because they can narrow their Star Wars games to the themes they want, and if so desiring can pretty much excise Jedi and the like from their campaigns; they can even go so far as to cut Force users out entirely as the Force chapter in EotE and AoR is pretty minimal, with the option to introduce it gradually if they so choose. It's a strategy that has worked out wonderfully for FFG and for folks that don't want to be forced into a "kitchen sink" Star Wars game.

EOTE is the most versatile of the three CRBs. You shouldn’t have any trouble creating most types of Star Wars characters with it.

You don’t need Age of Rebellion to play as a rebel. Just pick a similar career and call it whatever you’d like. No reason you can’t create a rebel pilot or soldier or whatever with EOTE careers.

Obviously, without Force and Destiny you won’t be playing with all the force rules, but EOTE has enough to get you started down that path too. If a player enjoys playing a force user then consider F&D at that point (maybe they can buy it for themselves).

My advice to anyone thinking about picking up the system would be to buy EOTE to get started and then consider buying F&D if the force is something their group wants to explore. Age of Rebellion is probably the one you can get away without owning the easiest in my opinion. Not that there’s not good stuff in it, but those careers are easier to fake by refluffing EOTE careers.

I’m not going to even mention all the talent trees online either... So, yeah, there’s a somewhat cheap and easy solution to your group’s issue.

Edit: Saw that you guys played the EOTE starter set and your players showed up with characters. How did they make them? The starter set doesn’t contain character creation rules, just pregens.

Have you considered going with the old school Star Wars RPG? That's a single book with everything you need to play (other than dice, of course) and doesn't need fancy dice.

As for the game itself, one alternative would be for the people in question to research what they want and get the sourcebooks for what they need. Want to play a soldier? Cool, Get Forged In Battle . A commander? Lead by Example. And so on. Each of them come with three specializations, relevant gear, and extra rules (mass combat, gambling, bounty rewards calculations, etc.)

Each of the core books adds new details, rules, weapons, items, classes, races, and information (EotE for example has a very interesting section about the different drugs of Star Wars while FaD has a section about relics and their power), so it justifies the separate packaging. Nothing is too hard to workshop or modify. Our first game was an AoR game with one guy who wanted to be a bounty hunter, so we made him a soldier and then treated him as a bounty hunter for plot purposes.

If they're just not interested in the game, that's alright. Not every role-playing system is everyone's forte. I'd recommend just figuring out what everyone in the group wants to do and running with it.

I see. So, neither you nor they actually looked at what was in the game. Instead, you’ve chosen to complain about circumstances that don’t exist.

I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt that this wasn’t the case, but I see that it is.

Why would they make three separate lines? I wondered that at first, too. But, I can now see that it’s to throw spotlights on the three different “flavors” that we’ve seen in Star Wars since practically day one. (And, of course, to maximize their profit.) None of the three lines preclude character types and play styles from the other “flavors.” Practical experience in playing the game bears this out.

The only things not covered by all three core books are the "core Mechanic" unique to each, two specific skills ( Knowledge Warfare and Lightsaber which are unique to AoR and F&D respectively), some of the talents, Force powers, and the careers unique to each game. And with the talents in particular, those all end up being covered by the various career source books anyway, so, eventually, all three systems get all of the talents (except, maybe some of the Force talents). And both of those skills and a number of talents, are now available to all three systems through Dawn of Rebellion.

Having three core rulebooks is not necessarily a bad thing. Any veteran gaming group will tell you having multiple copies of the rules to hand speeds up play and character advancement dramatically, as you're not waiting for one person to finish looking something up before you can look something else up. I admit I was a bit turned of by the three game lines to start, but I've embraced it as a smart decision from both gameplay and marketing standpoints. If you're only interested in one type of game (fringer campaign, for instance), you only need to invest in one game line. If you want the complete experience, you have to invest in all three. . . but the Star Wars license is expensive , I have no problem with FFG doing what they have to do to keep it and continue providing us with the best Star Wars RPG to date. And they've balanced it well, making accessible for most games while allowing the ones who can afford to splurge a wide range of useful products to invest in.

I would have gone with "Lucy Pinder in Princess Leia's bronze bikini," but the judges agree this answer is also acceptable.

Whatever your "I want this but it's not realistic that I can get it" is, will work for this example :P

Actually, I've always wished they rolled the forums into one. Yeah, I get that the lines are distinct and all, but the traffic in Age and Force is well below what the Edge traffic is. Ah well, unlikely to change at this point.

Yeah it would be nive to have a main star wars forum. With edge, age f&d sub forums. A gm forum with sub forums. A beginner game sub forum.
