I'm solely basing this on what we've seen released thus far for the Rebels and Imperials.

Republic:

Commander:

1. Anakin Skywalker

2. Obi-Wan Kenobi

3. Mace Windu

4. Yoda

5. Generic Commander, likely a Clone Commander since that would be like what we see with what has come out so far but a generic Jedi Knight might work too.

Operative:

1. Ahsoka Tano

2. Captain Rex, there is a distinct question of how they will handle the many Clone Commanders so this is just a best guess with the Jedi main characters serving as Commanders

Corps:

1. Phase 1 Clone Troopers

2. Phase 2 Clone Troopers

3. Cold Assault Clone Troopers

Special Forces:

1. ARC Troopers

2. ARC Trooper Strike Team

3. Jedi Knights/Jedi Sentinels, or an unlikely deep cut would be the Clone Assassins

4. Clone Commandos, they lend themselves to Infiltrate as well as having a configure weapon

Support:

1. AT-RT

2. EWHB-12 Heavy Blaster Team

3. Blurgg Riders (Twi'lek)

Heavy:

1. TX-130 Saber Tank

2. ???, lots of stuff is too large to fit here and a Naboo type speeder from TPM would likely just feel like a lesser TX-130. One of the proto walkers from Legends might work as a psuedo AT-ST I guess

CIS:

Commander:

1. Count Dooku

2. General Grevious

3. Assaj Ventress

4. Darth Maul, yes he never worked for the CIS but I could still see him being lumped in here like he will be in X-Wing

5. T-Series Tactical Droid (Generic Commander)

Operative:

1. Cad Bane

2. Savage Opress

Corps:

1. B1 Battle Droids

2. B2 Battle Droids

3. ???

Special Forces:

1. BX Droid Commandos

2. BX Droid Commandos Strike Team

3. IG-100 Magnaguard Droids

4. Geonosian Warrior Caste, they could have Jump 1 and be very mobile forces D-Wing Droids could work too

Support:

1. STAP Speeders

2. Destroyer Droid

3. Dwarf Spider Droid or to keep a mounted cavalry unit then Geonosian Picador Riders

Heavy:

1. AAT

2. Tank Droid

Now that’s a list. Looks good, but I see the Republic getting the AT-TE and even the AT-RT (with red defense dice because of clone armour). Also the republic did employ a lot of bounty hunters, so they’re likely to fill the Operative and Ashoka would be a commander in the republic since she actually held that rank.

I don't see us getting an AT-TE, not with it being 20+ meters long while the longest vehicle yet is the Occupier Tank which is only 7 meters long. I list Ahsoka as an operative mostly due to her A) being a Padawan rather than full on Jedi General and B) basing it on the idea that you could run her, Anakin and either Obi-Wan or Rex (if he is a commander) in the same list.

No mention of actual clone commanders such as Cody, Captain Rex.

For the CIS, we have Kalani, generic tactical and super tactical droids that make more sense as a commander than Asaaj Ventress.

My guess is about 300 more of these threads where everyone says the same things they said in the last clone wars thread...

The AT-OT might be an option.

ARC troopers should definitely be operatives rather than a SF team. The most we've ever seen of them in Disney stuff is 2 at a time (works for Operatives). In Legends, while a team could be put together, (Muunilist Ten, for instance) they generally worked alone. I'd love to see them as a Boba Fett analog, with probably slightly reduced abilities because of reasons.

Clone Commandos would make a great SF team (because that's exactly what they are), and the new weapon configuration cards would works really well with them.

Clone Commanders should get their own version of the Specialists Pack, and include 2-4 different Clone Commanders (Cody, Gree, Bly, Wolf, Doom, Thorn, Deviss, Bacara, Appo, take your pick). Not only would it include the option to play them as commanders, but they should also have the option of being played as Operatives.

Airborne troopers/Clone Paratroopers could be introduced as either a Corps or SF option. I'd prefer Corps, and give them an ability similar to Infiltrate, or Rapid Reinforcements, with the option of deploying right on an objective. To make up for it, I can see them lacking serious heavy weapon options, or having reduced range weapons.

Possibly, it is about 16 meters long but most of that is the barrel so the legs could likely be placed the AT-ST or Occupier base.

That would be a vehicle somewhat similar to the Occupier in role I'd imagine though like with many of the Republic vehicles it is a good deal bigger than the Occupier at 14 meters to the Occupier's 7.

Looking at their vehicles...

The AT-AP is 11 meters thought depending on how much of that is the cannon I could see maybe that being possibly used.

The SPHA-T at 140 meters long, nope that won't be in the game.

The Juggernaught at 50 meters long seems way too big and the board far too small to simulate its speed, then again the T-47 is in the game so maybe if we get some sort of Epic Legion mode.

RX-200 Falchion Assault Tank, it is 28-29 meters long with is far more reasonable than the SPHA-T but again seems too big for the game and its battlefield role doesn't really work in the game.

UT-AT is another 20+ meter long vehicle so likely a nope there.

The AT-PT is only 4 meters long so could very easily work in the game, the question however would be if FFG would see it as too similar to the AT-RT since both are single person walkers.

I guess that is fair but then we'd likely only get say Echo or Fives as an Operative just based off how that unit has been handled so far. Totally biased on my part but I'd love to try and get a group to somewhat replicate the group lead by Captain Fordo. Granted they'd likely follow Clone Wars (CG) and have them wear proto Phase 2 armor rather than Phase 1.

If they were an actual Operative unit with the option to give them an extra mini or two to make a squad that would be pretty neat and different.

I'd be fine with that, ideally I'd love it if they included the appropriate clone commander with their Jedi General but that won't happen not with Chewie and Han being separated. I sort of hope their Jedi generals will get Entourage for their clone commanders and the clone commanders get Cooperative:X with X being a unit well known from that legion or group.

Maybe they could be a Corps with the Training Slot like the Rebel Veterans. I sort of see them more as Special Forces but it would be interesting if they were a Corps unit with only Infiltrate as their ability so they can help secure an objective early but they don't get any other real bonus. Then again it also means, depending on points, a player could drop 6 of them on an objective and sit on it on turn one so not sure if that might be seen as a bad play experience for whoever has to play against them.

If they do follow the new Clone Wars idea of Phase II only ARC troopers, I'll be replacing them with 3D prints for a lot of lists.

No Jedi, even a padawan will end up as an Operative, unless it’s after they leave the order. Ahsoka did leave the Jedi order, but I don’t see them putting that version of her in the Republic faction. It’s more possible for Ahsoka to be an Operative in the Rebellion.

You do realize that “ranks” in this game does not reflect actual military ranks right? I mean... Boba Fett is, inside the star wars universe, just an independent bounty hunter but in this game he is an imperial operative. Some degree of “gamification” will be applied. I don’t see any reason that Ahsoka won’t be fit in operative “rank”.

Actually, the could conceivably have two unit cards, as a commander and as an operative.

That system would work for a lot of Clone Wars units, from Jedi to Clone Commanders and ARC troopers. Let's hope FFG realizes that, and doesn't try to shoehorn them all into one category or the other.

My first thought is that you are trying to be insulting, but then I thought you’re new here, so you wouldn’t do that.

The entire game is populated by the fictional characters from Star Wars, and since each unit in game is based off a character, if they had a military rank in story, it will more than likely put them in the Commander category in game. There is a direct correlation. Take a look at each Commander in game and their story arcs and you will see that if they held a military rank in story, they’re usually slotted into being a Commander in game. Generals Solo and Leia, Commander Skywalker, General Veers, Director Krennic all of them hold military ranks, even Vader is arguably a part of the Empire’s military. Jyn could have gone either way and the Emperor is unique, but could have no other position.

As for Ahsoka, I’m guessing that you didn’t watch the Clone Wars animated show. You should, it’s really good. In show she is in command of troops and is a part of the military. Also if you want a good example of an Operative, you should watch the Rebels animated show and pay particular attention to Ahsoka’s story arc there.

They could also include the exceptions to rank limits as already found on Palpatine (ie you can include Ahsoka/other Jedi and they don’t use a slot)

Jyn's rank was that of Sergeant, not the kind of rank you usually see commanding anything bigger than a squad. Having rank doesn't automatically mean they'll be commanders, or else we're in for some weird situations. Technically all Shoretroopers are Sergeants or above, so by that logic they can only be commanders.

Republic:

Barc Speeders

There were several iterations of these in Clone Wars and they were in RotS.

Trying to guess past the first wave is probably a wild bantha chase. Only thing I'll say is, I think they'll recylce the AT-RT (and maybe even radar cannon, it once dated to the Clone Wars, dunno about now) sooner rather than later, in order to just get stuff out there fast enough to make a "real" couple of factions. Sculpt just a crew, get a whole unit!

My neutral, disinterested guess for the first wave is probably Obi-Wan and clones against droids and Grievous. A grievous model would take a lot of parts to do right but there's nothing about any of him that would actually be hard to make. Dunno what they'd use for wave 1 support choices. Droidekas seem wrong to me, in a way I can't articulate, and the AT-RT a little too obvious for wave 1. Maybe wave 2 or 3.

Even WOTC managed to make a Grievous model...

I was more trying to match what we saw with the existing releases. The commanders and operatives aren't specifically ordered but for the rest it was:

Corps:

1. Base unit, B1s and Phase 1 Clones make since as the base generic for both factions.

2. An alternate corps unit, which B2s and Phase 2s represent. Alternatively the second Corps unit for the Republic could be their cold assault units and they save the Phase 2 ones for the Corps unit with the Training slot.

3. Corps unit with training slot.

Special Forces:

1. A commando like team, which BX Droid commandos represent well and Arc Troopers do from the old Clone Wars show.

2. Strike team of the above unit.

3. A melee focused unit, hence Magnaguards and Jedi Knights/some melee Clone unit. Technically they could also go with the Republic Guards if they wanted too, the Blue ones from TPM and Clone Wars though they were more ranged focused.

4. Special Forces unit with a configure weapon, which seemed to match well with Clone Commandos in my head.

Support:

1. Base support unit, with them swapping speeders for the AT-RT to set the Republic apart form the Empire early on, and the CIS used STAPs so it made sense too.

2. Emplacement Trooper unit

3. Mounted Cavalry

Heavy:

1. Notable vehicle, the TX-130 isn't exactly this since it doesn't show up in the film but it does show up alot in Legends sources, and is canon.

2. Additional Heavy option, though arguably it could be Open Transport but not tons of in scale options for the Republic, though I guess the Tank droid does count for the CIS considering how we see it ROTS with a couple B1 battledroids hanging onto it.

I have it on good authority that the new Core Set is going to be Gungans vs Geonosians.

I disagree. I am pretty sure we are are going to have Jedi operatives. Not all jedis are the "commanding type" and that is way more important than actual rank in the canon. My bet is Quinlan Vos as republic operative and Asajj as CIS operative. They do not fill the commander role at all. Same goes for Darth Maul. I see him more like an operative for CIS.

I never said we wouldn’t have a Jedi Operative, so it’s not possible to disagree with me on that. Quinlan might be an Operative, but Ventress was almost always in command of troops starting from the Clone Wars animated movie so she will be a Commander for sure, unless they make her from the last season when she becomes a bounty hunter. I totally agree with you about Maul though.
