I read a blurb recently about the officer who uses Leia as a shield in Empire. Apparently, he's a specialist in escorting prisoners! Here's this one thing he does in his one brief scene that is somehow relevant to his whole hypothetical existence.

The Rebellion really needed that ice cream maker.

My guesses:

Corps: Imperial Army Troopers, aka Mudtroopers (the guys from Solo). They can easily be based around trench warfare, given their representation in the movie, just like the rebel vetereans.

Support: Like most people here, my money is on the Dewback. Could maybe be a melee (not charge) focused unit?
