Looking for something to store my miniatures.

By Kingsguard, in Star Wars: Legion

I have a couple of battlefoam bags and over 20 of their foam trays and love every bit of that product. Having said that I decided to go a different direction with Star Wars Legion. I bought Pelican style cases that both protect and are perfect for transportation. The Appache line of hard cases at Harbor Freight tools are especially economical if you wait for the special they do every other week or so.

I bought the large 3800 for $39.99 and it comes with pluck foam. Additionally it had the advantage that it is 2mm longer on each side than the Battlefoam SeaWolf foam inserts so you can buy those inserts if you want custom loadout (I did buy a couple for my imperials). The pluck foam they comes with is really easy to use, I was able to fit my T-47, 3 AT-RTs and most of my rebel troops. I travel a lot for work, so I bought the smallest one (1800) to take minis with me to paint. I'm able to fit 12 minis, paint brushes and 4 Vallejo size paint bottles.

After I bought mine, Harbor Freight came out with two larger versions a 4800 (with additional clips on the sides) and a rifle case size 9800. Don't have either so I can't say how good they would be but the 4800 looks like it might be even better than my 3800.

BTW, no I don't work for harbor freight I just really like my legion cases.

Well my miniatures are starting to clutter up my desktop. It's about time I got something to put them in. Anyone have any suggestions on some kind of storage case that fits Legion figures?

question is how much are you willing pay for it?

I for myself decided to get a Feldherr suitcase with punchout foam for the bigger models and trays with 36 precut spaces for the trooper minis

@Chili-52 While the cases are great, the "issue" with using Pelican style cases in many areas is that they resemble cases for firearms, camera equipment, and other high value targets for thieves. So anyone using those cases should be very careful about leaving their army case in plain sight in an unattended car, more so than with some of the other available options.

Indubitably! I don't even leave my BF cases in plain view inside my car. If I have to leave them unattended they always go in the trunk. And that goes for any type of carrying case. I had a friend who magnetized all his miniatures (for a different game that shall not be named) and used a metal toolbox to transport them. It was a very cool concept until someone broke into his car thinking they were stealing tools! Another reason to never leave your minis inside a car, if you can avoid it, is that in extreme hot or cold weather your miniatures and paint job will suffer in conditions that will break, melt, chip, or unglue them.

GW 'Ardcase. Expensive, but I drag mine all over the world, so I'm glad to have the extra protection.

True dat. My first batch of painted Imperial Terrain stuff got semi melted in the back of my car one fateful afternoon in CA

Anyone have a good purchase suggestion on magnets to glue to the bases?

I've also glued magnets to the bottom of my bases. I already had a Battlefoam case so I splurged last year and bought the metal tray inserts for that case. Links below

These magnets worked for me! I just converted my battle foam case into a magnetic one.

Pics of the process. Bought some sheet metal flashing and aircraft snips at Home Depot for about $20 and had my case converted within an afternoon. Glueing the magnets on took two evenings while listening to podcasts.

Cool. I'll try them out then. They don't stick out from the bottom much do they?

They are actually slightly recessed on the trooper bases and perfectly flush on speeder bike and E-web bases. I used two for each base on notched bases. They have the perfect amount of stick to the sheet metal. Nothing moves but it's still easy to pull minis off when you want them.

I've about tripled my storage capacity and now I don't cringe every time I pull them out because they aren't grating up against foam in storage.

Sounds good. I'll give them a try. Thanks.

If you're broke, get a big $8 tupperware tub at Target and fill it with layers of "egg crate" foam that you can get as a mattress cover cheap at places like Big Lots.

In college I used one of these to hold a few hundred Warhammer figures. Now they're good for "deep storage" of minis I don't want to get rid of but won't be playing anytime soon.

I’ve used magnets for many years, but for most of my FFG games I’ve grown to really love the Stanley Click and Connect tool boxes. It’s perfect for Armada and Legion in particular. They’re modular on the inside, and the big top box lets you store almost anything. For a cheap, ready to go solution I haven’t really found anything better.
