Dabbling in the dark side

I’d like to try flying an imperial fleet for a change. What do you think of this list?

Vader’s Vengeance (396/400)
Empire

Commander: Darth Vader

Objectives: Contested Outpost, Solar Corona, Station Assault

[flagship] Imperial Star Destroyer Cymoon 1 Refit (112)
- Darth Vader (36)
- Intensify Firepower! (6)
- Wulff Yularen (7)
- Quad Battery Turrets (5)
- H9 Turbolasers (8)
- Gunnery Team (7)
= 181 total points

Imperial Star Destroyer Cymoon 1 Refit (112)
- Quad Battery Turrets (5)
- H9 Turbolasers (8)
- Gunnery Team (7)
= 132 total points

Raider I-class Corvette (44)
- Flechette Torpedoes (3)
- Ordnance Experts (4)
= 51 total points

Squadrons (32/134):
4x Tie Fighter Squadron (32)

The load out on the Cymoons are interesting. I think it might be better to swap Wulf and IF over to your non flagship to spread the points a bit.

Here's a double cymoon list I put together

Faction: Imperial
Commander: Darth Vader

Assault: Most Wanted
Defense: Jamming Barrier
Navigation: Solar Corona

ISD Cymoon 1 Refit (112)
• Darth Vader (36)
• Minister Tua (2)
• Gunnery Team (7)
• Quad Turbolaser Cannons (10)
• Spinal Armament (9)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
= 183 Points

ISD Cymoon 1 Refit (112)
• Wulff Yularen (7)
• Intensify Firepower! (6)
• Gunnery Team (7)
• Quad Turbolaser Cannons (10)
• Spinal Armament (9)
= 151 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Comms Net (2)
= 25 Points

Squadrons:
• Valen Rudor (13)
• Ciena Ree (17)
= 30 Points

Total Points: 389

I think the majority of the problems with this list for me are the lack of protection for the Cymoons and the use of the raider. I think that putting ECMs is a good idea, and maybe changing one Cymoon to a ISD II? I would do that to keep everyone safe and still get the brutal vader long range.. Maybe something like :

Faction: Imperial
Commander: Darth Vader

Assault: Most Wanted
Defense: Contested Outpost
Navigation: Dangerous Territory

ISD Cymoon 1 Refit (112)
• Darth Vader (36)
• Minister Tua (2)
• Intensify Firepower! (6)
• Gunnery Team (7)
• Spinal Armament (9)
• XI7 Turbolasers (6)
• Seventh Fleet Star Destroyer (5)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
= 190 Points

Imperial II (120)
• Governor Pryce (7)
• Gunnery Team (7)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7) (an E
• Leading Shots (4)
• XI7 Turbolasers (6) (Required)
• Seventh Fleet Star Destroyer (5) (I like 7th Fleet in this list, but feel free to switch from 10 points down to 5 with Avenger)
= 156 Points

Gozanti Cruisers (23)
• Comms Net (2)
• Suppressor (4)
= 29 Points

Squadrons:
• Ciena Ree (17)
= 17 Points

Total Points: 392

I am going to use this list this sunday.

@Kylemcph240 I think balancing the points out is a good suggestion. Do you mean “interesting” in a good way?

@Cleto0 The lack of defensive retrofits are a bit of a concern for me, but I feel I need anti-squadron assets hence the raider. Let me know how you get on on Sunday.

I have found that build to be brutal. 19 points is a lot, but it can pay off.

@rastahotep

I think it's a good list, I have run double cymoons quite a bit. Other than spreading the points a little better the main issue I have with it is using QBTs on the cymoon. They really dont have a use for blue dice. and with h9s you can get a guaranteed acc with the red anyway. Also I find myself typically not going slower than my opponent with ISDs anyway so I don't get much use out of qbts on my ISDs when i take them

@Kylemcph240 My thinking with QBTs and intensify firepower is that you are guaranteed an accuracy and a minimum of one hit with every attack, provide you are going slower than you opponent. However, I have very little experience flying ISDs, so if you think it is unlikely I’ll be flying slower than my opponents, I will try something else. Thanks.

QBTs on a cymoon just seemed odd to me. Generally with cymoons I try to maximize the number of red dice that they throw. I am curious as to how this will work. Let me know

I might as well staple a set of H9s and QBT to my Cymoon. My logic is that since the Cymoon isn't tanky for an ISD (lets not fool our selves its still an ISD). I tend to have it as a follower to either a group of Raiders or a Kuat or something that is content to go forward and draw attention. Since I'm always getting one hit/crit/acc from the QBT plus one damage from IF! I tend to not always need the H9 to generate an accuracy.

There is nothing better than rolling hot and ending up in the 6-9 damage range with crit enabled on the reds and then getting a 'free' accuracy to prevent that brace or contain depending on the target. Otherwise if one rolls something closer to 2 or 3 damage on the reds, the blue can add an accuracy and with IF and H9s you can add another via red manipulation to make sure that the damage gets to target.

Of course with Vader you are more likely going to be rolling much better damage than average so you might want to swap QBT for XI7s. H9s to make your accuracy block braces and let the XI7s deal with redirects.

Although IMO taking a second Cymoon over a ISD-2 or Kuat/ISD-1 for more damage or a pointman respectively would probably work better than than 2 Cymoons.
