I really want the First Order (and Resistance) and why they are viable as factions.

By That Blasted Samophlange, in Star Wars: Legion

There is virtually nothing inspiring from the First Order imo.

The films(especially the most recent one) have shown them to be shambolic, jokey...a bunch of stand ins who are a bit rubbish at their jobs/foolish.

Their tone compared to The Galactic Empire in Ep 4-6 and indeed Rogue 1 couldnt be more different. Its like The Empire reborn for children of 8 years old (in fact thats untrue...as a child I thought the seriousness of the Empire officers dialogue and actions were amazing. Compare the dialogue in most scenes in originals/R1 to First order....this is star wars? Honestly?

Oh good..its General 'hugs' on line 3. How inspiring. Oh wait what about that super officer in silver, oh no, killed by social justice of a lowly trooper with some jazzy one liners.

dosnt even feel like star wars.

The TFA Visual Dictionary, written from an out of universe perspective, says so.

Hm I read that and all I got was more consistent training for each individual soilder. They also imply in the same article the First Order stormtroopers remain untested in large scale conflicts. Regardless episode 9 could change my mind on them

I think it is only a question of time when we get FO and the Resistance. That said I can't share the enthusiasm.

Absolutely love Legion and love the Civil War period being an original trilogy child.

Love Clone Wars and Revenge of the sith(clone wars makes the prequels so much better) so will definitely get Clone Wars stuff for legion too.

I would without doubt pass on New Order and the resistance. Would actually save me some cash..whereas I cant resist buying anything for the two table top games I play atm(Legion & A song of Ice and Fire)

Wonder if 'General Leiea' will be able to fly to any point on the table once per battle? Phasma worse stats than normal first order troopers of course?

For those of us who DO want The First Order (and resistance), there are a couple of new unit options; the jetpack trooper

bgw1pglnevr21.jpg

And the Treadspeeder:

First-Order-Treadspeeder-1-e155509359057

First-Order-Treadspeeder-2-360x270.jpg

First-Order-Treadspeeder-3.jpg

First Order Treadspeeders are rugged, shielded patrol bikes with a design that grants greater traction on unstable terrain, and can avoid countermeasures that jam traditional speeders.

I think these could be really cool.. reminds me of a cross between a speederbike and Grevious’ wheelbike.

Game mechanic wise, this treadspeeder seems it could almost be a cross between the imperial speederbikes, and the AT-RT, at least armour wise. I don't see any identifiable weapons on it, except for either side of the treads.

First thing I thought when I saw this at swcc was first order scout troopers.

Did the First Order just build a bike around a gun?

No. The bottom picture is the rear of the bike.

Well I'm officially on board for wanting FO in the game ASAP...Resistance just need to catch up with some units.

nothing at all like goofy empire that chokes each other, loses to Ewoks and manages to have two super space stations blown up 🙄 . Its like this whole series is some sort of fun sci-fantasy based on buck rogers and 7th samurai.

If you are going to argue that the First Order comes across as a serious entity vs the Empire..then I don think I can argue anymore.

I can only speak for me, but in TFA they come across serious, well at least to me. Executing villagers, destroying worlds. There are some hiccups, granted, but overall in TFA I think you can take them seriously. TLJ on the other hand... Incompetence your name is First Order.

I’m arguing that star wars has always been goofy. If you want to cherry pick you can make any argument you feel like.

The force is literally Deus ex machina given a name.

That said the empire is scary, it also is goofy, as is all Star Wars.

The opening Raid in TFA cements the first order as bad ***. Stopping a blaster bolt in mid air. Getting a bloody hand print of your friend on your helmet. Setting people on fire.

Did you not watch hux’s Speech.

phasma has the same **** do nothing loser scenes as boba fett and she is still cooler then fett.

I was kinda following til that last line. Fett actually did something. Phasma got held up by 2 smugglers and a failure of a soldier and then gave in to them and lowered the sheilds.

I'd like to see how brave you are with an angry wookie and a blaster in your face.. I'd probably have a poodoo incident.

While it is explained in the novel Phasma, I'll sum up here. She is NOT a loyal First Order soldier. She is out for herself. She is vengeful, spiteful, and vindictive, and puts her survival over everyone else. Yes, it is a failing that they don't explain that in the movie, but the movies don't explain Boba Fett at all either (until the prequels somewhat, and clone wars). What we see him do is mostly stand around. Granted his deductions and beating Han to Cloud City, show competence, to me that is nullified by his choice to impose a minor inconvenience to a Jedi, and then be accidentally taken out by a blind man, and then die screaming and flailing like a chump.

I admit Boba has cool gear, and a cool ship, but he never impressed me. As A kid, I always found Bossk cooler.

Hm, I did read the Phasma comic and what you say was kinda expressed, but I agree they could have gotten that across better. We can agree on one thing though and that is that Bossk is pretty sick

I always find it funny when people criticize the First Order as being incompetent as if the Empire wasn’t before... They are literally the legacy of the Empire, so of course they inherited their incompetence.

It’s more explained in the book where we get to see how she joined the First Order. Pretty good read if you ask me.

Fair comment, I think I forget about TFA a bit with how poor TLJ was. *Still holding for General Hugs*

If he hasn’t, I suggest he doesn’t watch it if he wants to keep a good impression of the FO

Hehe...very true.

They are just awful in TLJ(but then again so were many things).

They left off with giving us no bad guy at all for the good uns to fight. The third film could start with absolutely anything it wants to stick in there...absolutely anything whatsoever it wants to and it would be where we are. THAT imo is the true tragedy of the middle film of this trilogy.

They set the tone for the FO in the first few minutes where the General aboard some super dreadnought got put on 'hold' by a rebel fighter pilot on his phone joking about 'still holding for General hugs'. It didnt really improve.

Seriously, can any SW fan imagine any way that the above conversation would have happened between Poe and Grand Moff Tarkin? That wasnt what SW ever was.

The implication being that Hux is supposed to be the Grand Moff Tarkin of the First Order?

He's not.

He's not even meant to be compared like that.

They specifically identify in the movie that Snoke realizes Hux isn't up to snuff.

That's the point.

And let's not act like this scene is the worst attempt at humor in the series or so help me god I will spend the rest of this afternoon spaming this thread with Gifs of Jar-Jar getting farted on, Jar Jar stepping in Poo, teddy bears beating imperial droops to death with sticks and rocks, and droids getting tortured....
