Am I the only one who was happy to read the announcements of those Arkham Horror's Miniatures that were announced before? and am I the only one who got sad because of the cancelation?

I thought the Miniatures looked great and the price wasn't bad at all. I just prefer to play with Miniatures than small cards but it's probably only me.

I just hope they didn't completely abandon the idea, did they announce anything about this?

After all you can still play the game without the miniatures right? so, nothing will be changed for existing players (no extra fees) unless you choose to buy the miniatures.

I was looking forward to the AH minis, not only for use in AH, but also as a set of high quality, pre-painted minis of the 1920's era for use in other RPGs and the like. The price was higher than I would've hoped, but spread out over however many months I don't think I'd have had trouble paying for it. $13 a month won't exactly break my bank, even if the accumulated total is a bit steep.

I was a bit sad when they decided to cancel the line, but I don't exactly blame them either. Given the feedback on these forums, I think they made the right choice. If they had pressed ahead they may have made a few fans like me very happy, but they would've taken a big loss to do it. I can't really blame FFG for watching the bottom line.

I'd like to see them included in a limited editon, collector's Arkham Horror, with a complete revised rulebook and components that spans the whole series of expansions all in one edition.

Somebody sent me a preview of a fan board that condenses all four boards into a little over half the space. They even added places to where you could get Black Goat cult encounters. I haven't seen any more versions since I gave them suggestions...

on topic: it would have been more viable if, instead of shipping 2 per month for $13, it would be a big box with all 48 investigators for something like ~200$ (still wouldn't buy it though)

The thing is.. these minis seem like they'd be the perfect venue for a 3D printer like the World of Warcraft figureprints. That was you could print on demand, and you could pay more to have them painted up ahead of time. But 3D printers are expensive, so..

So, basically the majority of Arkham Horror fans liked the Miniatures but disagrees on the shipment-mechanics and/or the price tag. While I think the price is fair I tend to agree that they need to offer more than two miniatures a month/package. I think 5 miniatures per package per month sounds better for $20-$25 a package.

The Collector's Edition idea is great! Having the whole game in one huge box with pre-painted miniatures and a better board + chits/cards (bigger cards) just like The War of the Ring CE Box!

I was initially interested in the minis, but the price/release schedhule turned me off completely.

I really don't mind the card investigators, but as it happens, I often use the minis from Fury of Dracula and find they fit in great (with the exception of The Count). The figures are obviously Victorian, but 30 years off isn't very noticeable for the most part. This restricts the investigator options to a maximum of three males and one female, but it hasn't been an issue in a dozen or so games.

There are also other cool minis produced specifically for use with the Call of Cthulhu RPG available from RAFM. While a little more expensive than FFG's minis would have been, they offer a great variety of investigators as well as monsters (if you really feel you have too much money).

I was pretty excited about the minis too.

And at the time I was also pretty pissed that a product could get killed so quickly by the knee-jerk grousing of a bunch of Internet naysayers (though it was indeed expensive, and of course I wouldn't want FFG to do something that they thought wasn't financially prudent, etc). C'est la vie.

Well, I think that was exactly the reason why they were planning to release them in groups of two. I probably would have spent at least 50 to 100 dollars to pick up my group's more beloved characters, but I didn't particularly feel the need to upgrade from cardboard Sister Mary, for example

(More importantly, though, I think the fact that we tend to frame the problem along those lines (ie: $200+ for all of them) reveals that we're probably not the best people to be evaluating the marketability of these things. That is, the sort of fanatical completists who obsessively refresh the front page for a Lurker update and bought Dunwich mostly just for the madness/injury cards would indeed see these and automatically think "how much will it cost me to buy every one of them," but most AH players I know will only ever own like one or two expansions and would probably think something like "ooh, I want to buy a photographer miniature, he's my favorite!")

I brought this up before, but I'll say it again. So, FFG is a company, right? Say they spend $2,000 on minuature development (a number that I've picked out of thin air for no real reason, but the exact amount is beside the point), and they make some minis. Great.

But whether or not they get a $2,000 return on their investment is beside the point in my eyes. I like FFG products, so I hope they would. However, since the minis really wouldn't add much to the game, I would much rather they spent their $2,000 on developing a new game that I can play w/ my friends, and maybe it will be just as much fun as Arkham Horror, or even better!

Probably there are other custom mini outfits around too. You could try one of those if you dont like Eureka's style.

Manage to enough interest to make it worth their while, and you'll have your arkham miniatures.

I have to disagree, we who enjoy the game enough to be actively involved with the forums here are probably FFG's best fans and customers. Saying that, most of the comments I see just in this thread alone support the decision FFG made, that being "well it's really awesome, but I wouldn't buy it". Basic statistics of smaller groups can be a fairly accurate representation of the market as a whole. A small group of 20 with a ratio of 12:8 would probably mean a market of 12:8. FFG knows what they are doing, let's just hope it is enough for them to release a collectors edition.

Would you be willing to pay $600 ($400 for a treatment of board and components similar to WotR and another $200 for a full set of investigator minis)? It's easy for people to get excited about something when they don't stop to consider how much it would likely cost, but cost is a factor FFG can't ignore if they want to stay in business, so it shouldn't be a factor we ignore either, when we're spinning webs of fancy about what FFG "should do next."

Why would it cost more than $400? WotR CE have over 200 painted miniatures. AH only needs 48.
