Finished painting my second set of Speeder Bikes yesterday. Did the first one in the classic white and black and decided that I'd do the other one in a forest camo theme. This was my first time attempting a paint scheme like this, think it turned out pretty well. Might have put a little too much shade on as it turned out a little darker than I intended but overall I'm pretty pleased with them. Going to get a another set of scout troopers and paint them the same way.

The thing to remember when doing camo on miniatures is to use colours that are slightly brighter then what you think they should be. It will help the time and effort put into it pop, while not being to dark to mush together like real camo

TReally like the camo for the scouts! I have just primed my scout expansion pack and will be doing a Forest/camo color scheme!

For 2 reasons lol 1) they are scouts so want to go more covert and 2) Iv just finished 5 units of stormtroopers and I am sick to death of white and black haha!!

Same here. After 4 stormtrooper units and 1 scout unit I need a break from white and black. Though my next planned purchases are Krennic and Death Troopers when they come out so I guess I'll be back to those colors.

Your scout troopers look fantastic. The camo is really well done. It looks like maybe your lighting was better for the second round of pictures. As far as too dark, I don’t think they are too dark at all. But the reality is that a camouflage scheme is essentially the polar opposite of the kind of “popping” highlights that we are all conditioned to try to paint in our minis. So it’s a paint scheme that’s never going to look like an OSL Darth Vader.

To my eyes, all the different parts of your scouts are still very clear and discernible, and your camouflage paint scheme is deliberate (not just a muddy brown blob) and reasonably realistic. You could have made it brighter but then it wouldn’t be camo. So I think you have struck a very reasonable compromise and the result is a set of really nice minis. They all look like they belong together and like troops that might actually be deployed in a forest. I think it’s really fine work.

Thanks. I definitely enjoyed painting them more than the typical white/black and since its camo you don't have to be as precise. Here's the paints I used:

Primed them using Mechanicus Standard Grey. Armor sections were basecoated using Deathworld Forest (citadel), camo pattern used Elysian Green (citadel), Steel Legion Drab (citadel), and Sick Green (vallejo game color). Highlighted using either Tallarn Sand (citadel) or Zandri Dust (citadel), can't remember exactly which one but either would work in my opinion.

Cloth sections were basecoated with German Grey (vallejo model color), and then highlighted with a mix of German Grey and white. Used Mournfang Brown (citadel) for the straps. Used the following shades for different sections: Nuln Oil, Athonian Camoshade, and Agrax Earthshade (citadel)

You could use similar colors or come up with your own paint scheme. Google military camo and you can see a bunch of different examples. Using different browns and tans could give you a desert camo or light blue, grey, and white for a winter theme. Black, grey and white could be used for an urban look. Lots of different options.

Great job on these miniatures. The camo was done very well and they all look cohesive and not just a bunch of multi colored troopers. Another great outside of the box look.

I did something different with my scouts as well by going with more of a mudtrooper look for one squad and by doing another squad with an AT-AT driver look for a Hoth theme.
