I'm just starting The Forgotten Age and I'm afraid I don't understand the neutral card Backpack. You play it and search the top 6 cards and then items or supplies go "face down" under the card. Are they randomly played or are they face down so other players don't see them.
Using Backpack
They are facedown so you dont confuse them for cards in play. You can look through them and play them as you would cards from your hand.
You then have access to them as if they were in your hand. They just are not officially in your hand for the purposes of any other game effect/rule.

Not quite. You can only play them, not commit them or put them into play.
Okay. Thank you so much.

The difference between "play" and "put into play" is a very important one (and a staple in FFG's games, by the way). You can't use Sleight of Hand on a card attached to your Backpack.
