Sato Fleet thoughts

By Frostweasel, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Ok so I am returning to the game after a long hiatus, not really played since wave 2 regionals. One of the things I wanted to try was a Sato list, I've looked at a few other builds and watched a few videos and this is what I've come up with and I would like some critique/ tactical advice. As a disclaimer I have only been able to pick up a profundity, transports, a pelta and Squadron 2 since my return so feedback of 'put external racks on' isn't that helpful. Trying to get hold of a hammerhead expansion in the U.K. For anywhere close to r.r.p is impossible and I'm not paying double.

Edit: also need some advice on what objectives work well with a list of this type.

Sato Ordnance (400/400)
Rebels
Commander: Commander Sato
Objectives: Opening Salvo
[flagship] MC75 Armored Cruiser (104)
- Commander Sato (32)
- Aspiration (3)
- Strategic Adviser (4)
- Assault Concussion Missiles (7)
- XI7 Turbolasers (6)
- Caitken and Shollan (6)
= 162 total points
MC30c Torpedo Frigate (63)
- Admonition (8)
- Lando Calrissian (4)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes (5)
- Ordnance Experts (4)
= 84 total points
GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
- Boosted Comms (4)
= 22 total points
CR90 Corvette A (44)
- Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
= 51 total points
Squadrons (81/134):
1x Tycho Celchu A-Wing Squadron (16)
2x A-Wing Squadron (22)
1x Hera Syndulla Ghost (28)
1x VCX-100 Freighter (15)

Well, the good news is Sato doesn't particularly love External Racks anyway. The Armored Cruiser isn't getting the best use of those ACMs or Sato here (4 black out the front, but only 2 out the side.) ACMs, APTs and XI7s also work at cross purposes; two want to make you die with shields still on, the other wants to rip through all your shields then kill you. Given this, I'd switch to an Ordnance Cruiser and add Expanded Launchers (and Intel Officer?) to throw a simply obscene amount of black dice. Whichever black crit upgrade you choose, it's best to keep it consistent for Admo too. MC30 scouts actually can be decent here, given the ability to trigger crit effects early at long range. The TRC90 isn't really gaining anything from Sato; if you want to use one, you could drop TRCs, add Dodonna's Pride for long range crits, and go APT heavy with the rest of the fleet to complement. Otherwise, maybe make it a GR75 and use the extra points for Han? Or possibly drop the VCX too and swap it for Salvation. Or just make it a Hammerhead *runs for cover*

Those changes might look something like this:

Name: Sato's Doom Shark
Faction: Rebel
Commander: Commander Sato

Assault: Opening Salvo
Defense: Hyperspace Assault
Navigation: Salvage Run

MC75 Ordnance Cruiser (100)
• Commander Sato (32)
• Intel Officer (7)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
• Assault Proton Torpedoes (5)
• Expanded Launchers (13)
• Aspiration (3)
= 171 Points

MC30c Scout Frigate (69)
• Lando Carissian (4)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• Assault Proton Torpedoes (5)
• Admonition (8)
= 90 Points

CR90 Corvette A (44)
• Dodonna's Pride (6)
= 50 Points

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
= 18 Points

Squadrons:
• Tycho Celchu (16)
• Hera Syndulla (28)
• 2 x A-wing Squadron (22)
= 66 Points

Total Points: 395

Good luck, hope this helps!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm a pure rebel so don't own expanded launchers and my nebs come from double core set so I never bought the single expansion (something I need to fix given the quality of intel officers) only own 1 apt card and 1 ordnance experts too hence the weird inclusion of acm alongside xi7. I feel the twins give me a little bit of flexibility in a Sato list so I may keep them.

You can also proxy or borrow stuff in a casual setting. I would consider doing that/expanding your ordnance repertiore (APT promos, maybe?)/running Dodonna. Sato is a pretty finicky Admiral to begin with in that when you build with him you’re working with the constraints of both a crit fleet and a survivable yet moderate squadron investment.

Thought about your suggestions and rewrote the list based on what I have available

Sato Ordnance (391/400)
Rebels
Commander: Commander Sato
Objectives: Opening Salvo, Hyperspace Assault, Superior Positions
[flagship] MC75 Ordnance Cruiser (100)
- Commander Sato (32)
- Aspiration (3)
- Electronic Counter Measures (7)
- Strategic Adviser (4)
- Rapid Reload (8)
- Assault Proton Torpedoes (5)
- Caitken and Shollan (6)
= 165 total points
GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
= 18 total points
CR90 Corvette A (44)
- Dodonna's Pride (6)
= 50 total points
MC30c Scout Frigate (69)
- Admonition (8)
- Lando Calrissian (4)
- Assault Concussion Missiles (7)
- Ordnance Experts (4)
= 92 total points
Squadrons (66/134):
1x Tycho Celchu A-Wing Squadron (16)
2x A-Wing Squadron (22)
1x Hera Syndulla Ghost (28)

I love Sato alot, and my friend has been theory crafting a list that includes Wide area barrage... I like it because you could get 8 potential damage out of the front arc, and then a few more damages out the side. and then you do the normal damage to the ship you are attacking! If you don't have 2 copies of OE, then I would put in a couple cr 90s or something so that you can drop the MC30. Opening Salvo might be tempting, but I would stay away from it because it is too easy to get damage on all of your ships, in which you could lose a lot of points, and your MOV will be screwed, even if you get a 400 that would be 170 for them, which sets you down to a 9-1 already, assuming that the don't actually destroy your ships. I like advanced gunnery because it can go on any of your combat ships, and will really screw them up. you get to apply it after the deploy fleet step, so you can see which of your ships could best use it.

Assault: Advanced Gunnery
Defense: Jamming Barrier
Navigation: Solar Corona

GR-75 Medium Transports (18)
• Slicer Tools (7)
= 25 Points

MC30c Scout Frigate (69)
• Lando Carissian (4)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• Advanced Projectors (6)
• Assault Concussion Missiles (7)
• Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
• Admonition (8)
= 105 Points

MC75 Ordnance Cruiser (100)
• Commander Sato (32)
• Bail Organa (7)
• Ordnance Experts (4)
• Electronic Countermeasures (7)
• Wide-Area Barrage (2)
• Expanded Launchers (13)
• Aspiration (3)
= 168 Points

Nebulon-B Support Refit (51)
• Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (7)
• Salvation (7)
= 65 Points

Squadrons:
• Tycho Celchu (16)
• Shara Bey (17)
= 33 Points

Total Points: 396

Just a quick note: Ordnance experts are greater then Caitken and Shollan on this list as the vast majority of your dice will be black, and it works on both attacks. And it is cheaper.

^ Very much true, but I believe that the OP only has one copy.

I prefer Salvation to CR90 for Sato but doesn't look like you have the points for it.

he does... look at my above list...

cut the unnecessary squads, and get it... I would create a dedicated A-wing ball, but I would have to make the MC30 into a set of hammerheads

Barring the fact that there are lists (anything with Squall, really) that can nuke Shara and Tycho down before the ships get a single shot off, let alone prolonged engagement. Hera matters.

Wouldn't Han be better? I don't know enough to give an accurate build.
