my sparring partner and i have used the Wookies a few time and every game they have rarely contributed, they die really fast. Compared to my Royal Guard they are pretty meh.

I can second that.

From my experience wookies are bantha fodder. Last game i had was the coordinated fire round where my 6-mini snowtrooper squad had 2 aim tokens already,

then pull the strings -> move plus 6 white with 4 rerolls = 5 damage

snow activation -> aim, move to range 1, shoot 3 black 5 red(frag granades)= 8 damage

The wookies were dead before he got to pull their command token out of the pool and their safe without surge is terrible.

This is your opponent's mistake. The fact that you could get that close without him reacting is a huge problem. activation control is the difference between a good player and a mediocre one.

Had another run in with some Wookiees on Sunday, and it made for an interesting example of what happens when your dice fail you, repeatedly.

General situation, two Rebel squads and 2 Stormtrooper squads on opposite sides of a bridge, with ARC Trooper Alpha (filling in for Boba) in a nearby tower. Rebel squads, through shenanigans, shoot and kill one squad of Stormies, and Wookies run up. They lose one guy before they get into range, then next turn charge into the remaining squad of stormtroopers, but only kill one of them. Alpha hops down into melee, flamethrowers/kicks the Wookiees, but only kills one. The stormtrooper squad the Wookiees charged now activates, aims, and punches one Wookiee to death, and leaves the last one at 1 health thanks to absolutely terrible defensive rolls by the Wookiees, and great offensive roles by the Stormtroopers.

Sounds like a 15 carat run of bad luck. Truth is kid, the game was rigged from the start.

I know it's crooked, but it's the only game in town.

Luke missed all four defensive rolls the other night. Dice are fickle, but one has to still use the figures to their best advantage.
