Map Rotation: Uscru is Out, Coruscant Back Alleys is IN

By Tvboy, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

That didn't take long for another one. And here I was ordering the new map thinking it was to have it well ahead of a rotation for a change.

I think based on the release date of the Lothal Wastes playmat that the rotation of Lothal Wastes was significantly delayed while the devs were trying to fix the spire issue, and now they are trying to get rotation back on schedule before Worlds.

A little off topic, but how many maps haven't been used yet from recent waves, and do maps ever rotate back in?

Could be an interesting thing to consider with the possibility of a new wave coming.

The last eight maps have been from (I think I have the order right) Obi-Wan, Jabba, Alliance Rangers, Jawa, Ahsokha, BT-1 and 000, Lothal Box, Maul. While it seems like they definitely trend towards the latest expansions, they do go back a wave or two every now and again. They have never rotated one back in.

So there are definitely lots of options left to go from the most recent expansions, and literally dozens of choices left going back to the earlier waves. The big thing with competitive skirmish maps, though, is that you generally want them to have a more-or-less even chance for both sides (and to not favour one type of list TOO too much). Another issue for competitive play is that you don't want maps that are super random. Something like "pick a colour and whatever figure is closest to that token is pulled into the sarlaac pit!" would be fantastic for making great stories/moments when you're playing with your friends at home, but would be really frustrating for the player who booked tickets/flights/hotel to travel across the country for a world championship only to see their Vader unceremoniously eaten by a sand monster :P

That makes sense.

So I guess if I understand corrrectly, given how many figure packs came with Lothal, we probably have a pretty decent backlog if we need it, so this doesn't necessarily imply a new wave anytime soon (nor does it really mean we won't get one either).

edit: Or would you consider some of the Lothal maps to feature a heavier reliance on the randomness you discussed, and therefore unlikely to be featured competitively?
