I have looked(And maybe I missed it) but I have not found anywhere in the rulebooks what is the dark side requirement. Besides being the requirements for hate, and maul saying that u can equip dark side upgrades i have not found anything else.

The FFG deck builder only allows you putting on force users from the first order/empire/Ventress, without maul in your list. I have not found anything in the rules or rules reference that states that only those factions can use the dark side. So my questions are which one is true?

1. only traditional dark side users when in reference to movies/novels/tv shows can use it even then has no in-game context to restrict it.

2. no one can equip dark side since it has not been defined unless they have Maul in their list. since the dark side is a requirement but no card says dark side beside maul.

3. everyone should be able to equip dark side upgrades since there are no restrictions to define what dark side means

now assuming that its based on character personalities from the cannon will anikan skywalker be allowed to use hate because he killed the younglings. and if so would both versions of anikan can use it or only the older version.

Right now, there is no clear definition on what constitutes a "Dark Side" eligible ship, aside from what the squad builder allows you to equip it to. Prevailing theory is that the upgrade will be available to "bad guys;" i.e., Empire, First Order, Separatists, and Scum (Maul/Crew being the notable exception for Rebels). Good guys (Rebels, Resistance, Republic) may eventually gain a "Light Side" restricted Force upgrade.

It will indeed be interesting to see if Republic Anakin is also granted access to Hate , as well... though it does seem to work best on cards with lots of health to back up its abilities (i.e. Asajj).

Currently, the understanding is that Dark Side upgrades are equippable by CIS, Empire, First Order, and Scum; and Light Side by Rebels, Republic, and Resistance. Maul allows a ship witha pre-existing Force slot to equip Dark Side upgrades to it (i.e. only Kanan, Ezra at the moment).

I doubt Anakin gets Hate, unless it specifically says on his card that he can use it.

We know there’ll be a rules reference update for Wave 3 (purple actions, new obstacles etc) so I expect that this will be added at the same time. But for now there’s no “proper” ruling.

If he can at all, I’d expect it to only be in the ETA-2 Actis. Maybe the inevitable crew card.

my question is since empire is the legitimate government of the galaxy, as seen in episode 3 wouldn't that make the rebels bad guys, and the empire the good guys of the star wars universe?
