Abusing New Ways to Motivate Them

By KrisWall, in Army Building

Had a thought. It's a sort of gimmick list, but curious what people think. The idea is to abuse New Ways to Motivate Them, Vader's 2 pip, to slingshot 5 units across the board in round 2.

  • Vader w/Force Push, Force Reflexes and Saber Throw
  • Royal Guards w/Electrostaff Guard, Tenacity and Recon Intel
  • Royal Guards w/Electrostaff Guard, Tenacity and Recon Intel
  • Snowtroopers w/Flamer, Comms Tech, HQ Uplink and Recon Intel
  • Snowtroopers w/Flamer, Comms Tech, HQ Uplink and Recon Intel
  • Snowtroopers w/Flamer, Comms Tech, HQ Uplink and Recon Intel
  • Snowtroopers w/FX-9 Med Droid and Recon Intel

I know it's only 7 activations, but in round 1, you just move up. In round 2, you play New Ways to Motivate Them and trigger all of the HQ Uplinks. That should leave you with the Royal Guards and the Flametrooper units all have faceup order tokens and all eligible to Move, Move, Move, Attack. Guards should easily get across the board and get a charge off. Snowtroopers should also get across the board and fire their flamers. The Med Droid is for healing an odd wound that might happen in round 1 to the Guards. Vader runs in behind and Vaders as he is wont to do.

I'd push for Breakthrough, Limited Visibility and Advanced Positions. With a 14 point bid, I'm very likely to be blue player.

Issues:

  • low unit count leaves me vulnerable late round
  • low unit count makes certain missions harder
  • no real impact, leaving Vader to fight AT-STs/AT-RTs. no real way to kill airspeeders.

I think this looks great! im a huge fan of bum rushing the opponent though. It's easier for them to make mistakes.

So remember when your Royal Guard had 2 immobilized tokens and they charged?

Just read the full rules for immobilize. I thought it reduced speed to a minimum of 1. I didn't realize it could take them down to 0. My bad. That was the first time I've seen immobilize tokens on the table. Totally unintentional. That's a big error. Game could very well have gone the other way. They would have had to shoot instead of charge.

Apologies.

It's okay no need to apologize. It was a great game and that's all that matters.

Yeah. Of the three games I played that day, I enjoyed that one the most. The first game ended after a round 3 concession. I lost the last game with some bad deployment decisions. Ours could have gone either way up until the very end.

We've been recruiting at Showcase. We should have maybe 2-4 new players at our 3/30 event. I'm hoping they start going to other store events also. More players is good for everyone.

I played this list last night. It was the Bespin map on Tabletop Simulator so I was able to hide fairly well prior to the charge. Long March, Recover the Supplies, and Limited Visibility. My opponent was using the winning list from LVO. We only made it a few activations into the 2nd round, but I had already secured 2 objectives and every time I activated I deleted one of my opponent's units. He had killed a Guard unit and a couple of Snowtroopers, but I'm pretty sure I was on my way to tabling him. Boba might have escaped, but he can only hold one objective, so I think I had it.

That's incredible and I'm really glad to hear that it worked well for you. I hadn't considered that Recover the Supplies might be a really good mission for this list.

I did make a few changes after playing the list. I'm planning on testing this out between now and another store event on 3/30.

  • Darth Vader w/Force Push, Force Reflexes and Saber Throw
  • Imperial Royal Guards w/Electrostaff Guard, Recon Intel and Tenacity
  • Snowtroopers w/Comms Tech, HQ Uplink, Fragmentation Grenades, Flametrooper and Recon Intel
  • Snowtroopers w/Fragmentation Grenades, Flametrooper and Recon Intel
  • Stormtroopers w/Imperial Officer
  • Stormtroopers w/FX-9 Medical Droid
  • Stormtroopers
  • Scout Troopers Strike Team w/Sonic Charge Saboteur, HQ Uplink and Recon Intel
  • Scout Troopers Strike Team w/Sonic Charge Saboteur, HQ Uplink and Recon Intel

The list works more or less the same with a few changes. In round 1, scout and move forward, while playing defensively. Hopefully you'll have Limited Visibility. If not, stick to LOS blocking terrain as much as possible. In round 2, Vader orders himself, the Guards and the Snowtroopers without the Comms Tech. The other Snowtroopers and the Scout Troopers pop their HQ Uplinks. Scout Troopers go first. They take the wound, going down to one model and then Move, Move, Arm followed by a Detonate after they complete the Arm action. This will almost certainly kill the Saboteur, but it'll also hopefully do some damage, and more importantly, give a decent number of enemy units two suppression tokens each. The other unit goes next, raising that to four suppression each. After that, the Royal Guards charge the best shooting enemy and the Flametroopers bring up the rear to flame large trooper units. With the frag grenades, they'll be rolling all black and red, so it should be pretty rough.

Three units of Stormtroopers act as general support, taking pot shots as needed to drive up suppression and going for objectives.

I think it'll work, but I need to test out the Saboteurs.
