for my first post here is a discussion about somthing very difficult to figure out!

in the case of

a character that is "immune to character abilities" and with some power on him.

On the other side a player plays Mellissandre (the one that make that powers on opponent's characters doesn't count)

in this case what happens?

My point of view is :

the effect of Melissandre doesn't affect the character himself but target only the power on him so thoses doesn't count.

My friend point of view is :

The effect target each characters and so renly and is powers are not affected by this effect.

So What do you think?

First, a bit of game terminology. An effect only "targets" another card if it uses the word "choose." In this game, you must "choose" a target. So Melisandre's effect doesn't actually "target" anything because it does not specifically "choose" anything. The better wording in this particular situation is whether or not Melisandre's ability "impacts" or "affects" the character, or only its power.

As for the answer to the question, look at the situation this way:

Suppose there was a character that said "The STR of opponents' characters does not count towards their Dominance total." Would an opponent's character that is immune to character abilities still count its STR during Dominance? The argument count be made that the ability doesn't affect the character itself, only its STR - the same as your argument that Melisandre doesn't affect the character itself, only its power - right? But in this case, it is probably easier to see that since STR is a specific characteristic of the character, you can't affect one without affecting the other. You don't draw a distinction between a characteristic (or "stat") and the character. So the STR of an immune character would be just as immune to the ability as the character itself and would be counted in Dominance.

The same is true for power. Any power on a card is considered a "stat" of the card. You cannot separate the power on a character from the character itself in terms of what is affecting it. I can't poke your arm without poking you, so to speak. So a character immune to character abilities (like CS-Renly or PotS-Red Viper) would still be immune to Melisandre and any power on it would still count.

Ellaria does not "choose" anything, so she actually does not target the character or the power.

And as specified above, changing the number of power of a character is the exact same thing as changing the character in some way. Therefore, a character that is immune to character abilities is immune to Ellaria's manipulation of the power on it.
