Four useful resources and some ideas for FFG

By Watercolour Dragon, in Genesys

Quite liking the look and usefulness of these to add to my sizeable collection of desktop gaming kit, they'd both be good for Genesys, Descent and similar games.

Gives me the idea that it would be good for FFG to do something along these lines and maybe partner with these or similar companies if the various parties concerned were happy to do so- just think how great a desktop Genesys Terrinoth (or Android or other setting) or Descent campaign could be with these kinds of tools made use of. For Descent for example the boxes could be part of the room/setting layout with the book for secondary locations or side quests or any combo of the two that best suited the content. Boxes could have inserts, furniture or other elements to vary the content of the rooms / locations.

Massive potential for Genesys adventures too- would love to see FFG innovate in this kind of direction and one of the few things now lacking in Descent is more map/terrain/location options so this is something FFG's dev team could think about.

There's also the non-interlinking card based map pieces for desktop gaming as have been made by various companies but I've found these can curl at the edges and they're not as good as the Descent tiles, although it's another useful resource.

Such innovation would be another way FFG could enter the growing market of multipurpose game kit, i.e. kit that can be used for other games as well as those it is primarily released for.

Following on from my earlier posts on ideas for desktop game and scenery mapping a system combining different options and kit that work together for maps and terrain in different games could innovate with different combined ways to map out the locations of the game be it an RPG, a quest / dungeon crawl / etc game like Descent or a battle based game like Battlelore or Runewars (original or miniatures).

(The original idea partly inspired by the new LOTR game's take on terrain but developing this further was things like a poster-map for much larger areas which could be an ocean or icy/desert/other land mass, hex tiles for more generic battle/exploration terrain but bringing in the next level of detail like woods and Descent-like 'zoom in' tiles for specific areas such as buildings, rooms and immediate locations such as a graveyard or market. Combine this with other innovations such as the ones here and you could have a really flexible, immersive and visually detailed mapping set up for games. Would love to see FFG think about how you could really enhance the gameworld that you build on the table and develop such a system. Gameplay and the enjoyment of the game itself remains the most important aspect of a game but these extras can really bring it to life so it becomes a story and a setting beyond the mechanics of the game for players who like games with that visual storytelling aspect.)

There's more, my Manor of Ravens inspired and other Descent inspired Genesys adventures are gonna love this (although if I do get it my huuuge stuff to paints will become even more so, but these are logically coloured so I don't have to paint them straight away):

KS is on fire with useful stuff for gamers especially for RPG creation and custom campaigns for those kinds of games - I was wondering how to solve various mapping desire dilemmas then found this, gone for the full commercial option so all possible future needs are covered (avoids any grey areas sharing stuff) as well as backing Tenfold Dungeon's map-in-a-box scenery tabletop solution, the creativity I can put into the player projects I'm working on for Genesys and Descent has now got awesome, hoping to add the other two items as the four will work so well together for the campaigns I'm working on, will be a joy to bring them to the tabletop and share the adventure module documents with you, everything's going to look good.

Also the map book project has a new SG of backer suggested stickers, hence if you're working on anything you might get a perfect match to your needs (I'm having a brainstorm myself for what to suggest)

Exciting fan stuffs for Genesys and Descent incoming.

Have been doing some more work on the various projects too so more news soon, been a bit tricky as had an awkward on-off-on-off work rota but still progressing on things, got some awesome photos to go with the player community resources too but no spoilers...
