Theorycrafting a best of the worst list.

By fuzzyalfalfa, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Me and my friend are trying to see who can come up with the worst list. He plays what I give him and I play what he makes for me. 200 points and you have to get as close as possible. Can't have too many duplicates of the same ship. Some notable MVP's have been Static Discharge Vanes, Gonk Droid, and trajectory simulator. I just want to know if anyone has any good ideas about what makes a truly garbage list.

Currently I'm planning on giving him a VCX with garbage upgrades and a Luke or Han Gunner. I'm unsure on the squadmate but I was considering Edrio Two-tubes or a Rebel Scout in the HWK.

Alternatively a freighter captain with Greedo in the Gunner slot is the worst single ship i can think of. But I am unsure how to fill out the rest of that list.

  • Omega Squadron Ace x 4
    • Outmanouvre
    • Pattern Analyser
    • Stealth Device

It sort of looks like it should work....right up until you realise you've got a grand total of 4 Initiative 3 TIE fighters with delusions of grandeur.

I assume equipping upgrades which flat out do nothing is considered cheating? otherwise:

  • "Static" - Omega Ace
    • Juke
    • Targeting Synchroniser
    • Stealth Device
  • Omega Squadron Ace x 3
    • Juke
    • Targeting Synchroniser
    • Stealth Device

Is even worse.

I would start by looking at stuff which slides in price, and put it on the 'wrong' ship - so agility-priced upgrades on TIE fighters, for example, or ships missing upgrades they're designed to carry (you could do worse than look at TIE punishers with no ordnance aboard, for example). Also, stuff which blocks itself if you use it is also potentially nice.

e.g.

  • Darth Vader is good.
  • Darth Vader with Supernatural Reflexes is good, if eye-wateringly expensive
  • Darth Vader with Supernatural Reflexes, Advanced Sensors, Concussion Missiles, and Hull Upgrade is still good...but basically no better than just Supernatural Reflexes Vader despite costing the full price of an academy pilot more.

Putting upgrades that do nothing is part of the purpose. The goal is to give him a list so bad that nothing he gives me could lose to it.

Say for instance a Customized Light Freighter

  • Freighter Captain
    • Katsu Onyo
    • Gonk Droid
    • Greedo
    • Static Discharge Vanes

For 70 points you have a ship that rolls 2 attack dice. Rolls 1 agility. And everyone gets to turn a hit into a crit when they fire at it.

Also Multiple copies of the same ship does seem awful, but we have limited ourselves to no more than two copies of the same garbage.

I came up with this:

Cutlass Squdron Pilot: tragedy simulator, agile gunner, static discharge vanes X2 (64 each)

Black Squdron Ace: debris gambit, static discharge vanes (37)

Black Squadron Ace: composure, static discharge vanes (35)

Zero useful upgrades in a 200 point list, all your opponent has is four 2 die attacks with single mods.
