I haven't been able to participate in a second edition tournament yet, but I recall that every tournament kit for the previous editions included a number of alternative art participation card prizes and a limited number of alternative art card prizes for the top finishers. Most of the individuals in my area played all of the games factions in the 1st edition, meaning that the card prizes always had some value to whoever won them, but only a small percentage of the people that I have spoken to plan on playing all of the factions in the 2nd edition. Many of the previous prize cards were pilot cards, so I was wondering if FFG commented on what it will be doing with faction locked prizes after the game reaches seven factions. Anyone have a clue as to what the practice will be moving forward?

Kits so far have also included alt-arts for Proton Torpedo & Shield Upgrade in addition to pilots
For the Wave kits, the cards have been linked to the newly released ships.
So Wave 1 featured Tie Fighters and Rebel Y-Wings.
Wave 2 currently features Resistance and FO stuff.
Plus generic upgrades as participation prizes.
The model isn’t too different from 1.0 to 2.0, so there is a greater chance an alt art prize will be less useful to the winner (in theory anyway — bear in mind a lot of 1.0 prizes weren’t top tier stuff either and as a result weren’t used by the top winners anyway).
System Open is doing prize tickets / prize wall for alt arts so those awards are more in line with what interests you.
There's also a thriving trade market for alt-arts and other prizes. If you get something you don't want, odds are somebody else does want it and is willing to make a swap.
