Quasar. Omg. Was seriously surprised how effective it is.
What ship have you tried that did surprisingly well for you and thought would do horrible?
MC80 Star Cruiser. SW-7 Ion Batteries really made it fun. Well, that and mostly facing off against a VSD.
The ISD I.
I do not like large ships that don't have a defensive retrofit. It feels stupid to me to run anything over 100 points without being able to guarantee at least one brace a round. That said, once Minister Tua dropped, the ISD I became an interesting option. Especially after the rules for Rapid Launch Bays were sorted. I didn't have high hopes for the ISD I based on some wave 2 matches I had where it got hit big and home one locked down the brace every time, but this match changed my mind.
I made a really brutal BTA using RLBs on an ISD I with 4 phantoms stuffed in it.
Ended up sinking a fresh Mc80L in a single activation.
Revealed a dial, squadron, sacrificed a squad token already on my ship and the BT card to flip all the mc80L's defenses. Then resolved the squad command to drop all 4 phantoms and activated them for a total of 6 damage, only 2 of which was redirected to the side. Then rolled 3 black 2 blue 3 red for a total of 10 damage.
BOOM... GLUG GLUG GLUG GLUG.
Quasar Fires and Arquitens.
The Pelta. I use one in my rebel fleet because I liked the design of it. But I think it flies pretty well in both formats if you can plan with it.
For me double pelta.
Arquitens. Not that I thought it was bad, it's just that my first game with it went much better than I thought it would.
Interdictor. GSR, can make being 2nd worth. Title, Brunson, Targ Scrambler, super tanky. HIE ups the dmg output.
Raider 2 in a Screed list (Or Vader) with HIEs and D-Caps. Softens up targets for ACM equipped GSDs & Kuat.
For builds that worked where I thought they wouldn't, the Devastator upgrade for the ISD2.
For individual ships, I was shocked at how capable the Raider 2 became after the release of Heavy Ion Emplacements.
I ran 130 points of TIEs before Sloane was a thing. They were even at the time brutal if my opponent didn't bring flak.

Triple the Pelta, I'm in on that one.
This ship has become the staple of my list building and direct reason I'm doing considerably better in my matches and its really difficult to explain or justify when people ask why or how.
At this point, I don't think I would build a list without it.

Interdictor. Tua can make it an acceptable combat ship. HIE made it better.
We we just need a different support upgrade and maybe make it a good combat ship.
The VSD proved quite formidable, especially for its speed and reputation.
Ok, this is kind of a bait reply, but I'm gonna go with Demolisher.
I've been playing demolisher since wave 1, I was among the lucky few who got to experience the Clonisher firsthand during its first appearance in the first Vassal WC, adopted the high activation - last first philosophy myself and I played various iterations of it in msu fleets.
That was until its nerf: somehow, with the ET faq, something clicked in me and I decided Demo was dead for me, and that pulling those amazing high speed moves with that sweet 2 clicks engine tech at the end was no longer possible, thus putting the often outdeployed Demo in a bad spot for its trick, specifically in regard to its capability to set up double arcs and get away from retaliation. I resorted to playing rebels for some time - GASP, the HORROR - then switched back to imperials: I even brought a 2 GSD list to a tournament, and neither of those was a Demo. However, I felt that something was amiss in my armada life no matter what I flew.
Only recently, after trying some double ISD builds, I decided it was time for a change of pace again, and tried a JJ msu list with a proud Demolisher GSD in it, and HOLY BALLS! Like, that thing can pull off an effective speed 4 manouver with 2-2-1-2 clicks, and even though it cant shoot after ET anymore, I feel like JJ is the most fitting admiral for it, as he enables drifting so hard the double arc setup is nowhere near a problem, and retaliation can now be avoided more easily than ever.
I'm so glad to have a ship waifu back!
