So I am just getting back into X-Wing (and will continue to just play 1.0) and I am considering getting the C-ROC Cruiser Expansion Pack and my question is this- if I get that expansion, will that change the play area to 6x3 as opposed to the standard 3x3?

If you're using Epic ships you might want to use the 6x3 area, yeah. It's not an absolute requirement though, but if you're using multiple epics per side, you'll want it.
If it is just the one epic ship, would the 3x3 work? At this point, I don't plan on other epic ships. It's mostly for RPG but if I have it, I want to use it for X-Wing as well

It's.... tight. For RPG purposes you can get away with 'cheating it' a bit. I think, maybe, you can manage a tight circle... might hit every rock going since you won't be able to maneuver much else. Also... not like you'll get super far if you have a turn/time limit in play.

We used to play a mini epic game, use one small epic(C-ROC,Transport,Gonzati) and you can play with those on a 3x3. It takes a little getting used to but there is room.
