De-cloaking Large/Medium Ships

Looking for clarification on de-cloaking Large/Medium based ships

From what I seen in the rules , it looks like you don't follow the typical barrel roll rules when you De-cloak a large/medium based ships since it is specifying the 1 speed template instead of the 2 speed template for small based ships. Do large/medium based ships get to barrel roll the length of the 1 speed straight maneuver? (which is different from normal barrel rolling with the width of the maneuver template)

I understand why they wouldn't get the 2 speed but a normal barrel roll doesn't seem to represent cloaked movement as we have seen them.

They do a normal barrel roll. Nothing says otherwise.

it's a balance thing, them moving any further than that would be crazy powerful.

Just my opinion but I hope they reconsider this cause it should be hard to catch a cloaked ship and even still if you measure it out the 2 template on a small base still moves farther than using the length of the 1 template on the large/medium bases. It really makes cloak almost pointless on a large and especially on a medium base ship.

That's just not true.

Getting a boost or barrel roll before you move is by no means pointless. It's well before moving in the system phase, but it's still a pretty potent effect, since it doesn't cost you an action this turn. And that's leaving out the +2 agility bonus, which is a significant boost to defense on a 1-agility ship. Doesn't seem bad for a Infiltrator to Cloak when disengaging, if they don't have a good K-Turn or S-Loop available.

They still get a great defensive bonus and some positioning. They can't use Cloak in exactly the same way that small ships can, but then again, should we really expect them to?

Both very good points. Yes without a doubt, the defensive increase is a plus but I was referring more to the movement. IMO: Thematically if it is able to move more randomly it would appear as if it is popping in and out of cloak and surprising their enemy much more than barely moving at all (comparatively to the small base). This thematic idea is also how I rationalize their defensive increase with cloak as well; the enemy thinks they know where they are and takes a shot but they miss cause they were cloaked and they guessed wrong. I also agree with previous posts, it would be powerful but the points costs could reflect that in 2.0. So overall I would say yes, I think we should expect them to be used the same, because it is still a cloaked ship.
