GONK! (Custom Cards)

By GuillotineTE, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

The Gonk Droid army is here! I made custom Gonk Droid deployment cards, elite and regular. I also made EG-86, the Gonk Droid from Rebels. Imagine 7 Gonk droids in one army. The normal gonks are neutral and can be in any army. EG-86 is Rebel.

EG-86 (Gonk Droid)

Second Edit: Here's my "final" draft of these after I finally got my own Windows PC. Thank you @Bitterman for the valuable work you've done for the community.

First Edit: The GNK droids now distribute power tokens instead of command card manipulation. EG-86 now also has the spy trait.

The regulars are 2 points apiece and the elites are 3. Eg-86 is 4.

I think these would be better if they gave out power tokens.

That’s actually a really good idea. I hadn’t thought of that. The unique one is still going to have command card manipulation.

This is an interesting concept actually.

I'd be wary of making them too good. It's literally a battery on legs that shuffles around very slowly. Like... very, very slowly. They're cool and iconic and we can envisage a situation where a power boost is useful in combat, and maybe they can sit on a back-field objective so they're not useless, but they're not going to be dodging anything or keeping up with the flow of battle. Maybe something like:

Power Droid : seems to be able to trigger once per each activation (including activations of hostile figures), not just on the droid's activation.

You probably want to have "Once during your activation, ...", or "During your activation, .... Limit once per activation."

Good spot, thanks. Corrected.

How about giving them some sort of 'Special Ability' like

"Inconsequential": When you are defeated, the opposing player gains 1 less Victory Point.

Well in my opinion, if you want folks to use them, GNK droids should be serving several purposes:

  1. A fairly cheap way of getting power tokens to your attacking units.
  2. In late game situations, line-of-sight blockers to protect your other figures.
  3. Giving enough VPs so that your opponents will be rewarded for targeting them -- and, if you're going to use them as blockers, knowing you can sacrifice them without Celebration or Jabba giving them even more VPs.
  4. Slow, but not so slow that they're impossible to be used after the 1st round.

So maybe something like this? (Hey @a1bert , could you check out my wording on Inconsequential and let me know if it will work? Thanks!)

Quote

Regular Neutral Deployment - GNK Power Droid (Gonk)
Cost: 2, 1 figure
Droid

=> => Weapon Recharge: Up to two adjacent friendly figures gain 1 DMG TOKEN.

Limited A.I.: You cannot attack, interact, control or claim objects.

Inconsequential: To your opponent, this deployment is considered an object that can be attacked. When it is destroyed, your opponent gains VPs equal to the deployment cost of this card.

Elite Neutral Deployment - GNK Power Droid (Gonk)
Cost: 3, 1 figure
Droid

=> => Multi-System Recharge: Up to three adjacent friendly figures gain 1 WILDCARD TOKEN.

Limited A.I.: You cannot attack, interact, control or claim objects.

Making GNK an object to your opponent(s) would allow an opponent's figure to end movement in the same space, while your own figures could not, and would not block line of sight to your opponent(s), while blocking your own line of sight.

I might also be confusing because some of the abilities only affect objects and some affect figures.

"this deployment" is also something that the game has not used before. It should be "this figure" or "this group".

A-ha! I knew I messed it up somehow! I thought making it an object would be interesting since there are a few Heavy Weapon things that also affect objects. But you're right, it just makes things more complicated.

What I'm trying to do is the following, maybe this will work: "When this figure is defeated, your opponent cannot use abilities or Command cards to increase the amount of VPs gained."

Because the eGonks are- well- elite, I gave them another ability where they can actually power other droids or vehicles. I think this works really well thematically and it doesn't come without a cost. I'm not sure if I like them suffering 1 damage for the ability or if I want them to suffer 2 strain.

I think giving them a white die with disposable would make them more balanced. Building it into the Inconsequential ability would save space. Maybe like this?

Should say "... may not use abilities or Command cards..."

Don't know how to get rid of uploaded files so when I tried to replace them with the edited versions they wouldn't take.

2 little questions ...

a) Do you have a suggestion for a Gonk Droid figure?

b) ... do you think you could make a Campaign variants for these? lol I'm primarily campaign player and these things are awesome.

I don't have a great suggestion for figures other than using the current astromech droids: R2-D2, C1-10P, BT-1. You could also use crates or other unused tokens like Saska's gadget thingies.

I can absolutely make a campaign variant for these. I'm glad you like them,

Also I'm not great with the technical stuff on the forum so I need some help to figure out how to add more pictures without it saying too many uploaded or something like that.

with the last one - the workaround I use is Discord. Send someone else a file then click "open original". This will populate a link on the discord servers that will last a few months at min. Then, back on this forum click "insert other media" at the bot right of the reply box. Copy/paste in the link and you have a winner.

I typically use imgur.com for image hosting.
