SSD Delayed

No problem with CW content. Would even welcome cross faction ships such as Acclamator/Venator. And would solve some new content problems for existing factions.

However, even a planned move to CW content still does not explain (to me anyways) why a company would produce a huge new single model then say nothing about it for 6 months+. It just doesn’t make any sort of sense to me.

My bet is that they’ve been working on developing Republic, Separatists, First Order, and Resistance as their own factions for Armada, like they recently did for X-Wing. I mean, all 4 of those factions have more official content that would work at Armada’s scale than they do at X-Wing’s scale, so it would make sense. And that would take a LOT of play testing and a long time to get to to the point where an announcement is ready to be made, which would explain the general silence and big gaps between releases.

Call me a fool, but I’m still hanging on to hope.

That would be interesting. My thoughts lately around Armada and the SSD boil down to: What was the most asked for product? The SSD. FFG did listen, and responded. Sure they haven't been transparent about their schedule, production snafus, or communicating really anything at all to the Armada community....which is wrong.

Once my thought process gets over that, I try to think what was the second most asked for product? The only thing I can think of is the Venator - but you can't do that without adding in CW factions... which would require a lot of play testing and new product and might explain why they've been reluctant to announce WEight (Wave 8, cause, ya know the SSD is heavy) because it's more than just that?

The only real hint I've seen is the release of Sector Fleet rules - new factions could spice up the 2v2/3/4 quite a bit by showing us something much different. On the other hand it's all conjecture.

I would love for them to add sequel factions simply because I really like the design of the Finalizer/resurgent battlecruiser? Star destroyer? I'm not sure the actual designation at the moment but they look awesome. If they were available at the same price as the ISD expansion I would buy 6 of them

Those ships shoild be able to one-shot ISDs. Even if they get released they will be at SSD level IMO.

The Venator & Acclamator could be added to the imperial faction without a CW faction.

That said, I wouldn’t mind CW factions at all as long as there were cross faction ships such as the aforementioned.

My only concern would be the impact on releases for reb/imp factions. It’s not like Aramada is even getting a quarter of the support xwing does.

Your guess is as good as mine...but I suspect they are trying to do a lot with minimal staffing levels. Like so many companies these days!

To add some context, though, both expansions from the last Wave are sold out. That seems to contradict the idea that sales of Armada expansions are drying up.

As I said, I'm just presenting a possible line of reasoning that may explain FFG's thought processes; whether that reasoning is valid is another matter entirely! I just don't have enough information to judge the strength of Armada's sales in any meaningful way and in any case, what matters more is how the game is perceived to be performing relative to other product lines.

Agreed! Considering that the Venator and Dreadnought both regularly feature heavily in "most wanted ship" lists, there's decent anecdotal evidence to suggest that new content/factions built around those ships would do well. And I suspect a few people wouldn't say no to a Lucrehulk or two either...

Blah.

Which is probably the most meaningful thing I've said all month!

I like the idea of bringing in some CW stuff as part of the existing factions...but there are too many obstacles to producing entirely new and separate factions. It would take them years to produce factions that would be anywhere near competitive.

The problem with new factions is that the supply of ships/squadrons within each faction is finite. What happens when the supply runs out? Do we switch to Armada 2.0 the clone wars? To be followed a couple years later by Armada 3.0 Resistance vs. First Order? Are we going to be forced to purchase new core sets every few years?

Sorry, but i feel that this would kill Armada.

For now, let's just keep it simple and keep the 2 factions. Perhaps new campaign expansions could be used to add new content like the first order and resistance. Introduce the older CW content, but work it into Imperial and Rebel factions, or even offer them as dual-faction ships.

While real world supply is a concern, I think there is certainly enough content for a decent size republic & separatist fleets.

There certainly isn’t enough content for FO & Resistance. I don’t think it would kill the game if handled properly.

Although with the way FFG is handling Armada they may kill the game anyways lol
