I wish I could claim to be surprised.

Seems pretty standard for FFG at this point

How bout now
Disappointed.
But I was planning on taking it to use at my local store that doesn’t sell or play Armada anymore.
Wait...

If it makes you feel better, the local store I can get to easily doesn't play either. Its rather annoying. I keep asking to see if they have anyone asking about armada, but so far nope.
It is going to be okay ladies and gentleman, and our precious fighter packs are on the way! I get the disappointment in the SSD being delayed, but it is better this way than not knowing, and it will be coming! So hang on a little longer
After watching that vid I’m just left wondering what the **** is going on? I’d really like to know where the problem is. Is this a printing capacity issue? Is the boat bringing them delayed? Is it even an issue at FFGs end somehow? Are they making no effort to push this forward?
I’d really like FFG to be more transparent on what’s going on. They can’t even get a preview article out. The odd tweet that says there will be news ‘soon’ and then many game stores push back the expected release date with no comment from FFG is hardly reassuring.
If, and I believe that strongly, we get a full wave 8 announcement in April (at the latest), I really can live with an SSD delay. Its not as if anyone expected it before April, anyway. I look forward to this majesty of a ship, but the love for it is hardly universal, so wont break toooo many Armada hearts. Company behaviour overall, though, is disappointing (from this customers point of view), as so often with Armada.
If Squadrons are "on the boat" and none of the other reprints are, it seems to me that they're having problems painting the miniatures.
In some ways it's an encouraging sign for Armada's future, at least they're anticipating or having trouble keeping up with demand for it.
It's just little bit sad that us rebel players likely will have to wait for another year for a ship for us.

And I hope you pre-ordered your squadron packs...because if you didn't, the scalpers will swoop in and buy them all up to sell them for 3x the price on ebay. And don't forget the people that already have enough but will buy more for fear of never having the opportunity again.

The tactics you describe are only effective if FFG's latest assessment of the latent demand for Squadron I packs is far too pessimistic. In other words, demand is VERY high AND FFG vastly underestimates that demand.
To be honest, I am most worried about the availability of the maneuver tool. How will new players be able to play the game at all without maneuver tools dedicated to speed 2 and speed 3 maneuvers. The humanity!

they actually always do squad pack 1's in Feb, or at least that's the way it was in 2018 and 2017, i kind of think they're on a yearly release schedule and armada just sells better than they expect.

And I hope you’re right, because these packs selling out immediately would send a clear message to FFG, as unlikely to happen as that is.
But hey look... XWing gets the Sith Infiltrator in 1Q 2019!
>.<
I really can't understand FFG. It's like someone in the upper ranks is holding a grudge on someone closely related to Armada...

I don’t know who has oversight of Armada at FFG but I’m seriously questioning their competency.

There is also the new game coming out, Star Wars Outer Rim. I will have nothing to do with it, but did notice just the other day that they are releasing a new game, but still not supporting this one.
I've heard it said that the majority of a player's expenditure on a new miniatures game occurs within the first year or so, which sort of makes sense. We usually need to buy a core set and several expansions to get established and after that, we either lose interest and move on or, if we enjoy it, our collection fairly quickly reaches a saturation level where we have everything we really need (and probably a lot more). From there on, it gets harder for companies like FFG to extract money from us. Yes, they can crank out expansions, but as the sheer volume of content builds up, it must get proportionally harder to design new product that players will buy, but which doesn't completely break the game. At some point, there must be a strong temptation to say "screw this, it's easier to create a new game and build a new playerbase than coax any more cash from those guys".
Now to be clear, I'm not defending this reasoning...I suspect it's just the way economics work (or are perceived as working). This is one reason why I agree with the view that Armada needs to embrace the Clone Wars or something similar in order to break the current impasse.

No problem with CW content. Would even welcome cross faction ships such as Acclamator/Venator. And would solve some new content problems for existing factions.
However, even a planned move to CW content still does not explain (to me anyways) why a company would produce a huge new single model then say nothing about it for 6 months+. It just doesn’t make any sort of sense to me.

To add some context, though, both expansions from the last Wave are sold out. That seems to contradict the idea that sales of Armada expansions are drying up.
