I only have eyes "Four U"

By emeraldbeacon, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been having a lot of fun with quadruple-U-Wing shenanigans at my local shop, and I'm wondering if folks here would have any suggestions on how to take the list even further to the edge of insanity. The very rough template I have so far is:

  • Benthic Two-Tubes with Perceptive Co-Pilot
  • Heff Tober with Lando Calrissian
  • Blue Squadron Scout with Leia Organa
  • Blue Squadron Scout with Jyn Erso

Basic strategy is to run Heff Tober in as interference, rolling the remaining squad up to cover escape routes. Leia stays in the back. Once the engagement happens and the first flyby is about to occur, I pop Leia and start whirling around stress-free to get unexpected shots and force problematic blocks. With 32 health and 12+ attack dice per turn, it's a lot for any squad to deal with, outside of heavy alpha strikes. Other thoughts have involved including Debris Gambit or Tactical Jammer on Heff Tober, upgrading one of the Blue Scouts to Cassian Andor (for stress management) or Magva Yarro (anti-alpha), or even boosting Heff's offensive abilities with Juke (with Lando + Jyn, I'm guaranteed an evade token, with about a 3/8 chance of getting two). This is what I'm currently thinking about:

Benthic Two Tubes (47)
Perceptive Copilot (8)
Pivot Wing (0)

Heff Tobber (45)
Lando Calrissian (2)
Pivot Wing (0)

Blue Squadron Scout (43)
Leia Organa (2)
Pivot Wing (0)

Magva Yarro (50)
Jyn Erso (2)
Pivot Wing (0)
Total: 199

Any other thoughts?

My biggest thought is that I'd love to find a way to throw tactical officer on Heff. I downgraded Magva to Bodhi, which also works well with your strategy of their Heff out front while also giving Heff Tac officer

Bloody H€LL I love this idea!

What about Saw, Heff, and 2 blues, all with TacOffs, Leia on a Blue, and Intimidation on Heff?

Thanks to Saw, everybody gets WAY stronger as they go down, and white coordinates everwhere allow blocking (not shooting) Us to empower their friends' attacks

If I had 4 Us I'd totally fly that...

That actually leaves you 4 points to play with. I do still like the idea of Lando on Heff Tobber, which STILL leaves you 2 points of wiggle room...

Saw Gerrera (52)
Tactical Officer (2)
Pivot Wing (0)

Heff Tobber (45)
Intimidation (3)
Lando Calrissian (2)
Tactical Officer (2)
Pivot Wing (0)

Blue Squadron Scout (43)
Tactical Officer (2)
Leia Organa (2)
Pivot Wing (0)

Blue Squadron Scout (43)
Tactical Officer (2)
Pivot Wing (0)
Total: 198

Lando and Jyn could fill the 4 points

Here is a hyperspace version i am liking:

Saw Gerrera (52)
Leia Organa (2)
Pivot Wing (0)
Deadman’s Switch (2)

Magva Yarro (50)
Lando Calrissian (2)
Pivot Wing (0)

Partisan Renegade (43)
Deadman’s Switch (2)
Pivot Wing (0)

I flew something a lot like this last night.

  • Blue Scout (Leia)
  • Blue Scout (Jyn)
  • Benthic (PerCo, Baze Malbus) - Baze probably wasn't needed, but it got me an extra focus once.
  • T-65 Edrio Two-Tubes (R5-P8)

Having a bunch of U-Wings is pretty fun. Heff makes sense, though. Toss him in front early for blocking. Would it make sense to find points for Zeb crew, so that he can get a shot with all his actions?

My reluctance to add Zeb is that he works a little differently (as in, less effectively) in second edition, than he did in first. Yes, you're allowed your shot at Range 0; but all touching enemy ships are, too. In first edition, the enemy ship had to be in YOUR firing arc, to get its own shot at you.

This 4U challenge is interesting, I only have 2. but still interesting. My take on Hyperspace version. Upgrades spread around, to give your oponent harder targeting decisions

was not able to copy paste ... duh

In the right hands, quadUs should be a serious meta threat.

It's 4 coordinating X-Wings with free stops and pilots ability shenanigans...

...and more HP.

What about Cassian in there? You could dial in a stop with everyone, Cassian to see where your target is going, pop Leia and thanks to the title you can have all ships facing the exact right direction with mods. Then do it again!

Just flew a 4-U list. It was going to be Wedge instead of Heff for a while, but borrowed a 4th U from a friend. Kinda liked it.

  • Benthic Two-Tubes (Perceptive Copilot, PW) 55
  • Blue Squadron Pathfinder (Leia Organa, Tactical Officer, PW) 47
  • Blue Squadron Pathfinder (Jyn Erso, Tactical Officer, PW) 47
  • Heff Tober (Intimidation, Zeb Orrelious, Tactical Officer, Pivot Wing) 51

Benthic's double-focus is amazing. There's so much you can do with a block of these to chop and change activation order, coordiante someone before a red stall (Leia's great, but she doesn't work every turn!), after they bump, etc etc. Put Heff in front, Benthic in back, and just joust.

(52) Saw Gerrera [UT-60D U-wing] (0) Pivot Wing (1) Crack Shot (5) Contraband Cybernetics Points: 58

(47) Cassian Andor [UT-60D U-wing] (0) Pivot Wing (1) Crack Shot (2) Leia Organa Points: 50

(45) Heff Tobber [UT-60D U-wing] (0) Pivot Wing (1) Crack Shot Points: 46

(43) Blue Squadron Scout [UT-60D U-wing] (0) Pivot Wing (2) Tactical Officer Points: 45 Total points: 199

I Ran this at a CAC event and did extremely well. No one really knew how exactly to deal with 4 u-wings.

The main reason why I just love the concept! It's punchy, tanky, and can do things you just don't expect it to... and because of that (and the fact that few people HAVE four U-Wings to put on the table), people don't know how to react.
