Is Nashtah pup worth 7 points?

By K13R4N, in X-Wing

So I saw the following ship build early into 2.0:

(56) Trandoshan Slaver
(8) Lando Calrissian
Points 64

Feel good value with the reinforce defence and then the rerolls for offence. First things first I know the value of Nashtah depends on the point cost of the Slaver but if we ignore that for a second shouldn't 7 points (6+1 for the tooth title) for a Z be super impressive? So it takes a damage on deployment but with Dead man's switch for a extra 2 points shouldn't that be EXTREMELY good value? 2 attack 2 defence and 3 health for 9 points with DMS?

What am I missing?

It only arrives when you die, it arrives with one less hit point, and it's a naked pilot ability-less z95 which is among the worst ships in the game.

for 7 points it is also by far the cheapest ship in the game.

From the games I've played, it's not a bad way to bank points without completely losing them like you would with a bid (if you are playing a list that doesn't want a bid, of course).

That said, I've had plenty of times where the party bus wasn't the one the enemy focused on, so it didn't die, making the Pup do nothing. And I don't know if banking 6 points is that mathematically helpful if this does happen.

I've personally tried to make it work, but been unable to get 7 points of value from it. (I especially want it to work because I have a sweet modded YV-666 with a peg-and-magnet that holds the Pup upside-down against the hull.)

If it had, say, 5 charges, and lost 1 charge per turn, and could deploy anytime it had 0 charges ... maybe?

I like this idea!

And?

For 0 points jamming beam is the (joint) cheapest upgrade in the game but it still usually sucks.

It's also not the cheapest ship because you can't field it alone.

Z-95s one of the worst ships? Cheap, solid dial... You are doing it wrong.

Yes. Name a ship other than the TIE/LN that's worse.

It's cheap because it's bad.

Personally I prefer a tie over a Z-95 unless I buy the Z a missile. Naked I feel like the Tie’s dial + actions allow me to more reliably reach range 1.

The Z has certainly grown on me, and the potential to double mod is a nice advantage over a tie. Having shields AND a extra health over a Tie helps.

I think what pushes me this way is the red barrel roll, the Z’s dial is pretty good, but after a barrel roll your stress clearing options move too fast.

Yeah, I name the /LN because it's he other pretty mediocre basic cheap filler, but I agree it's actually a better ship - the evade action is more useful than the lock action at low init, the barrel roll being white makes it a WAY more useful blocker, as does the 5 straight and all three speeds of turn.

And it can get double mods with Howl.

Would you pay 3-4 points for a whole ship? If the answer is yes, he's definitely worth it. I don't play scum, but if I did, this would be my favorite upgrade.

If would just run a almost naked slaver and recklessly fly it the enemy's face. Once it pops, you got two more dice to throw at the enemy, and if they target it, they're shooting at a 3 point ship.

No ship can be fielded alone, always two there are.

And for 7 points you get a ship thats effectively worth (3/4) 15'ish points. If you cannot see its use, I cannot help you.

Jamming beam is a very powerfull and usefull albeith situational cannon. While it appears a damageless version of an attack with v1 hotshot copilot, it has the ability to remove target-locks to deny munition attacks from lower I ships, that is worth 0pt.

Yeah, and those two cost 63. Even being as generous as possible and saying they're half each, the Pup is still costing you more than a regular Z would, and being less useful because it's not contributing at all until your opponent decides to let it out.
