How are you flying Kylo now and what are you flying him with?

By Erichxzann, in X-Wing

I’ve been enjoying a super light build:

(76) Kylo Ren
(3) Hate
Points 79

(45) "Quickdraw"
(10) Special Forces Gunner
(2) Fanatical
(2) Fire-Control System
Points 59

(62) Lieutenant Tavson
Points 62

Total points: 200

I have just decided to completely forgo a bid and just fly what I can. I was playing proton torps on Kylo with QD and MD but found that list a little too squishy. The shuttle really rounds out this list in my opinion. Furthermore, I’ve found my self using Kylo’s pilot ability much more frequently now that I don’t have SNR. All in all the list has made me fly more conservatively and be a lot more patient about when to engage. I was iffy about Kylo but I feel like he’s probably where he should be. Has anyone been playing some other builds? Has anyone actually gone for SNR Kylo after points change?

Personally, I kinda feel like the most important slot to fill on Kylo is the Tech slot.

Advanced Optics combines really well with Force charges to do solid damage.

Pattern Analyzer opens up red moves, if that suits a player's style (personally, I think I use Autothrusters too much to pull too many red moves, but the potential is strong).

I'm not personally interested in the Supernatural Reflexes build (it's so expensive!), but Primed Thrusters feels really good there.

I prefer to add proton torps to Kylo, to bring him more offense, since he can use the force to mod the dices. I also get him pattern analyser.

No force power (except maybe hate), I prefer to give him the initative bid.

I have played a few games with Tavson and Scorch. Tavons going around the map and playing actions, while shooting 1-2 times per game, and scorch doing damage and receiving coordinate actions from Tavson.

People are going after Tavson to bring him down, and Kylo has the time to be behind the opponent, and bring torpedo fire on targets.

The only thing I would add is predator, but since Kylo has no talent slot....

Advanced Optics is wonderful. Hate is nice if points allow. Try to keep a decent bid, as there's a lot of good i5 pilots out there. Don't worry about his ability unless you have 2 Forces unused and you know you're going to get the recharge right back.

Hate, Pattern Analyzer, Prockets

I5 Kylo isn't nearly as interesting as Blackout IMO. However, Recoil with Predator looks fun but niche.

This ship chassis and costs currently cement this ship as a pint night game ship.... they didn't make it First Order's T-70, that's for sure; T-70s look nicely competitive.

Hate and optics Kylo is decent.

How about Quickdraw and Backdraft alongside him? Should be sufficient points to load both SFs out nicely.

I don't like AO on high I ships as I find I want to save the focus for defence since silencers are so many points. Lower I ships generally get very good value out of AO as you will often either spend the focus on defence or you know you can spend it without consequence on offence 99% of the time (except when you roll natties).

I tried Kylo with Hate AO and Proton Torps, and found I never used AO. Kylo with just Hate and one of AO or Proton Torps might be on, I ran him yesterday with H+PT and found him excellent. Kylo only needing to get a lock to effectively fully modify the torp is great and Hate triggering before ISYTDS means you can always proc it.

Is hate allways before ISYTDS? If you have all your force can you ISYTDS and then recover the spent token with hate?

I'd say Hate is always first. Suffering damage happens during the attack, and Kylo's ability allows him to give out ISYTDS after defending. If you were at full, force, Hate wouldn't do anything, but giving ISYTDS would happen afterwards.

Yes, this is correct. They have different timings.
