Sands of the Past - Preview #1

By Sadgit, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I am happy to announce Sands of the Past - an expansion for Descent: Journeys in the Dark 2nd edition. A couple of months ago, myself and several members of the community set out to develop a community expansion with roughly the content and (most importantly) the quality of a small box official expansion. Although some components of SotP are still at a play-testing stage, the new Road to Peril coop mode that will be included in SotP expansion has already sparked a thread on BGG. I therefore decided to share some details on SotP in a series of previews.

For details see my announcement post on BGG.

I admire your dedication to all these project you (and the others) are participating in.

(In the name of all Descent fans I) Thank you! :)

Sadgit you are a god, everything you do for the descent community is amazing, tyvm for all your hard work

@Sadgit , any preview on Road to Peril? Thank you 🙂

Looks great. I imagine it will be content to be printed ? It is not a physical content that you ll try to fund throw Kickstarter ;) ?

Yes. Kickstarter would be great but of course not possible due to copyright. We will provide detailed instructions and templates for printing all components either professionally (e.g. through printerstudio) or at home. Figures for heroes and monsters will be from Reaper to keep the costs low.

Hero forge can provide figures at good prices

How? The cheapest plastic would take 19,99$ there. From reaper or Fantasywelt (to Europe) you can get figures starting from 2-3$/€

Did you indeed asked and...had an answer ? I remember that the french fan translation for Gloomhaven went through crowfunding after authorization. If the game in its 2nd edition is indeed dead (physical expansions) then it would be nice if FFG could at least enhance the Community input.
And i even don't see how FFG could refuse if they gave you the go for the work, of course all this keeping in mind that we don't make money but just try to reduce the overall printing cost and make it easier for the fans.
Now of course is the question of logistics and i would understand that nobody wants to deal with that cumbersome task ...

Anyway If i have to print myself i am sure i would never do anything :). ...

But they are ugly for most of them. And if you download the file from heroforge and print it yourself, it cost you only 9€

One of our goals was to provide an expansion with components that can be obtained for approximately the price of an official small expansion. Reaper minis are a good option here. All 5 monster minis together cost around 10 EUR.

There are some nice figures though... +fantasywelt has some other options as well (wizkids and other D&D figures, etc.)

I'm a mediocre painter I think and tried to do my best to do something with the original Ravaella figure ... but I think I'm failed. And then decided to buy a cheaper plastic 'gnome female wizard' from Reaper to replace, here's a comparison.

You're far better than me on painting ! The reaper one is taller and not the same I am really close minded about that

Is there a place where we can get some info on Road To Peril? Thank you 🙂

Not yet :)
Sorry, to keep you waiting but we really want to create a high quality expansion. We need to iterate a couple of things and playtest some more. Thanks for your patience.

P.S: Erik posted a second preview on the second hero and class included in SotP at BGG.

Sounding awesome, all this going on with other players and my own projects = Terrinoth is clearly going to be my main hobby for this year and remain so for quite some time, just wish work didn't get in the way of it *smiles* as I'm itching to finish the first of my various projects, the time and effort's worth it though (plus even talking about why I'm backing the KS's and getting certain things is getting some others talking about Descent/Terrinoth stuff- should remember to mention it more in my posts to keep the games 'out there' :)
