"Slots" meaning upgrade types?
Fleet Commands on things that aren't Peltas. Imagine putting IF! into play without wasting 60 points on a slower CR90 with Spinals equipped.
I don't know how they'd do an entirely new upgrade slot that would alienate entire waves.
That being said, a Squadron upgrade slot, you can equip a squadron to a ship and it costs as part of your fleet points but not Squadron points.
You place a squadron stand with that squadron next to the ship card.
That squadron has to be attacked by other squadrons before they can attack the ship.
The Squadron cannot be activated by a squadron command, the squadron can conduct an attack on any squadron at close range during the squadron phase, or if no squadron is present, an enemy ship. That squadron is considered escorting that ship, and cannot "detach" and move away
I don't care about balance, I want thematics!

This. I would love to see a few more officers (or even titles) for both factions that can be used to add an upgrade slot to a ship (like Minister Tua or Chimaera ). Would just have to go back through seven waves to make sure it doesn't lead to anything being broken (like getting an Offensive Retrofit on Yavaris or something).
I want to see a dedicated Ion platform that has two ion slots, and intorduces more interesting ion upgrades. Not really a slot, but its what I want to see. Though it would also be interesting to have combat flotillas and have upgrades that can only go on them.

So hereโs an interesting idea. Is it possible that FFG is actively doing this, hence the increasing time between releases?
Something to make medium ships better would be great. Something to have a reason to play Victory or AF again.

We have those. It's called a Cymoon, or any ISD with the Chimaera title. ๐ ๐
When the Republic comes out, I'd like to see the Jedi Admirals having their normal Admiral ability, but also something similar to Tua but is a generic ability they all have: "When a Jedi Admiral or Officer is equip to a ship, that ships gains 1 Force Power slot." So while their normal Admiral/Officer powers that arnt on the same level as say, Tarkin, but then you can also equip a Force Power, and those would be the real bread and butter of the Jedi Admirals. Things like:
Battle Meditation: When a ship is attacking, during its attack phase it may reroll one dice.
Or Jedi Counter Boarding: When a ship would suffer the effects of a boarding team, you may Discard the Jedi Officer or Admiral, and prevent the effect.
Just stuff like that. It would be thematic, it would make it easy to not have to print new ship cards in the future, and you could have it so each Jedi comes with a different force power to encourage collecting them all...

Exactly not this. One thing I like about capital ship combat is that Jedi and the force don't play a big role in it. I like that Jedi / Sith are powerful worriers. But what's important about them is that they are not indestructible monsters. While they might be able to stand their own against several enemies. Their power is nothing compared to an ISD and I think that's good the way it is. It makes sense for force powers to influence a game like X-wing where the force users themselves are directly controlling a ships guns or steering that is however not the case in a capital ship battle. All a Jedi brings to the table in a capital ship battle is their intuition and tactical ingenuity. The same thing that a non force user would have at their disposal. While there might be a small argument to be made that some force users have some small degree of precognition (which would be about the only useful force ability in a capital ship fight since things like battle meditation are not canon anymore (and should stay that way!)). But I don't think this warrant an entire new mechanic. These types of effects can just be handled the same way all card effects are handled without a new ability slot or anything like that.
