Squad Leader Phoenix A-Wing

By Hiemfire, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Curious if anyone has slipped one of these into a list for a nimble early coordinate platform.

Phoenix Squadron Pilot (30)
Squad Leader (4)

Total: 34

At 34points and with its dial and nearly a full action bar I can see it as possibly getting some decent use. Ideas?

I keep thinking about a Phoenix Leader, but haven't tried it yet. Seems like it'd be a cool escort to a Corran Horn, maybe. A lot of speed for a support ship.

  • Phoenix Squadron Pilot (Squad Leader) 34
  • Arvel Crynyd (Predator, Intimidation) 39
  • Jake Farrell (Composure, Crack Shot) 38
    • Composure isn't super vital, but seems OK on Jake. Failing a barrel roll would still allow a focus action, which would allow Jake to Boost
  • Corran Horn (Predator, Advanced Sensors, R2 Astromech, Afterburners) 88
  • Total 199, bid 1

Probably more thematic than strong, but kinda cool.

I like it.

For 2 points more you get a better AP-5, with more survivability and a better dial.

Here's a rebel swarm utilizing him.

E-wing - •Gavin Darklighter - 61
•Gavin Darklighter - Bold Wingman (61)

Z-95-AF4 Headhunter - •Lieutenant Blount - 34
•Lieutenant Blount - Team Player (30)
Ion Missiles (4)

RZ-1 A-wing - Green Squadron Pilot - 34
Green Squadron Pilot - (32)
Predator (2)

RZ-1 A-wing - Phoenix Squadron Pilot - 34
Phoenix Squadron Pilot - (30)
•Squad Leader (4)

RZ-1 A-wing - •Arvel Crynyd - 37
•Arvel Crynyd - Green Leader (34)
Intimidation (3)

Total: 200/200

Probably not optimal, as I took a previous list and just swapped AP for the Phoenix

Better AP-5? Maybe when it comes to mobility, AP-5's ability is pretty dang good.

Yeah, but he also "tethers" you with his slowness, where the Phoenix can keep up with pretty much any ship.

AP is also very fragile, where The A-wing has a better hull-to-shield ratio and an extra agility. It can also evade or focus instead of coordinating in a pinch, where AP can only calculate.

However, the Sheathapiede can carry crew like leia, cassian, or informant, has a rear arc, and AP-5 still has a admittedly great ability and the ability to coordinate calculates, reloads, slams, or any other upgrade-card-based actions. (Idk if those are still a thing, but if not, they might be in future expansions)

Looks like both have their own niche. :) The Phoenix is more nimble, AP-5 has a bit more utility. :)

I wouldn't. Awings are horribly fragile without focus and if restricted in their maneuvers because bound to a ship.

ap5 with Leia for 34pt brings so much more in my opinion

AP isn't so tanky either, 2 or three shots is all you need if you focus him.

At least the A wing has 3 agility to keep him covered

I feel like AP-5 (with Leia, or just two points spent elsewhere) is probably a better support ship than an A-Wing in every way. Two arcs, tricks with stress and red moves, and a decent dial*. The pure utility is amazing.

But a SQL Phoenix has immense mobility if it isn't coordinating . Maybe the time to use it when you rarely want to coordinate. Focus or Evade and Boost for positioning, getting to the flank with someone, then switching to coordinate mode later.

*A-Wing dial is better, but SQL's coordinate is red. The white and blues on a Sheathipede are probably better than the blues-only of an A-Wing. With Leia added in, the option to flip with a 3-k or do a 1-reverse are pretty impressive.
