Fastest defeat?

By Janaka, in Arkham Horror: The Card Game

Just played Return to Blood on the Alter.

Jenny Barnes. Solo. No trauma. Easy mode.

Lost in five rounds.

Can't remember the exact sequence of play but began with a Hired Gun in play (a hunter). The very first location I went to I found the secret chamber but had to draw a Servant of Many Mouths for my trouble. First encounter card drawn was the other Hired Gun. Took some horror in round 3 or 4 before ending up engaged with all three enemies and drew Sordid and Silent which, (as I failed to move location due to three engaged enemies) guarantees one horror per round. Failed all my evades and got stung for some serious damage and horror in round five to finish me off.

Can anybody beat five rounds? 😮

Potential FA spoilers:

In our second playthrough of FA, I had a poisoned Yorick in scenario 2 start with two physical trauma. Drew Fang of Yig and Creeping Poison a few times and died on turn 3... and I couldn't play any cards to stop it. That was the first time we realized that FA could just throw people in a dumpster.

But I'm not sure it counts as defeat because we were in a 2P game. Luckily, Sefina carried the day in that scenario and we ended up defeating the whole campaign with zero vengeance. Yorick absolutely healed his poison at the hospital. Starting every scenario with 3 trauma was interesting. though.

3 player game, final scenario of original Night of the Zealot (which we were using as a "Dysartes learns AH" campaign) - lost Roland on the turn 3 or 4 Mythos phase.

Had moved to a location, which made me check or take Horror damage, and drew two Treacheries that dealt horror - Roland went insane with virtually nothing he could do about it...

My first time playing Echoes of the Past. It was a 2 player game with me and a friend visiting from California. We had a series of the worst possible Mythos draws. By the start of turn 3 we were on Agenda 2, and Agenda 3 on the following turn. We had no choice but to resign.

Hilariously, on the second time I played Echoes of the Past? We never advanced past agenda 1 throughout the entire scenario.

Can‘t recall the exact situation, but it was Jim Culver solo in Where Doom Awaits and He either died in the enemy phase in round 2 or in mythos phase in round 3.

I think he had mental trauma.

First round I played Shrivelling Lvl. 5.

First mythos phase: Avian thrall.

Second round: attacked with Shrivelling, drew at least twice a bad token (I think at least one tentacle).

I either didn‘t manage to kill the avian thrall and got defeated by it or died from the next encounter card.

One of the (hypothetical) fastest defeats (apart from resigning with the first action) would be in Essex County Express in a 3+ player game with 3 Ancient Evils in the first mythos phase.

Or – if you have enough physical trauma – if you play medical texts with your first action and fail to heal yourself with medical texts with your second action.

Or if you fail the skill checks if you start on Crumbling Precipice in Depths of Yoth with your first action.

Or if you get a trauma during setup which kills you or drives you insane.

I think my "best" was a defeat in round 3 of The Gathering, playing Daisy Walker solo.

It was quite a while ago so I don't remember the exactly what happened, but it was something like:

  • Round 2 Mythos Phase: I took 3 damage from Grasping Hands (-4 from chaos bag?).
  • Round 2 Investigation Phase: played Medical Texts, tried to use them, drew the Auto-fail.
  • Round 3: I think I drew the Tablet while trying to use Shrivelling against a Ghoul. Either that or I failed three Shrivelling checks in a row against it and it defeated me in the Enemy Phase.

I have not played Daisy in a solo game since!

Roland and Agnes went to New Orleans looking for the Rougarou.

First mythos Roland got Ripples om the Surfare, complete failure and three horror.

Next mythos another one and he disappeared screaming into the swamps.

Agnes just gave up then and went back to Arkham.

Took a while before I tried that scenario again, and Roland was NOT invited.

USAK

I can't remember how many turns it took, but we first tried The Gathering on hard with Marie in a group of 4. She drew Baron Samedi in the first or second turn. Damage mounted up real fast.

If you get Shivering Pools as a starting location in The Pallid Mask and fail to draw any clue gathering cards, it can make for an extremely short scenario. I admit I started over.

Midnight Masks- soloing Carolyn Fern. Was defeated in roughly 5 rounds. drew hunting shadow while having no clues, fought Wolf-man Drew and took some some from him in enemy phase. drew another hunting shadow without clues. probably one of the shortest games i have ever played.
