Origin Path Question

By Captain Harlock, in Rogue Trader

This has probably been dealt with before, but could anybody tell me why the Rogue Trader and the Astropath are at the extreems of the table. It does seem a bit odd that a Rogue Traders motivation can only be Prestige (as opposed to pride in the dynasty and his own abilities or reknown or fortune ?) and that a astropaths mitivation can only be because of endurance , (Im not even sure that is makes sense...does it mean a astropath Transcendent's only motivation is the kick he/she gets out being at the edge of the galaxy beyond the astropathic choirs?) I know that you can ignore the origin pathway if you want to. Im just trying to understand the rationale behind it out of curiosity as certainly the careers could fit all the motivations..."

Thanks

Read once more page 15, especially box origin path options. ;-)

You dont have keep the adievent pools as long as your GM says you can 'jump'. And he rather should say ok for that.

Our group has a system that seems to work. We follow the path except for one free jump. The jump allows you to pick anyone option along a row. After the jump you may decide to continue from the jump point to the next three options in the lower row or choose from any of the three options below the option directly below your last pick before the jump.

Quick graph:

Column 5 -> Jump to column 2 -> pick from column 1-3

OR

Column 5 -> Jump to column 2 -> pick from column 4-6

*each "->" leading to a new row.

Pretty much you can stray from your path once and either continue on your new path or get back on to your old one. I'm pretty sure if someone had a character idea no one in my gaming group would mind if they wanted to deviate further, as along as it was for roleplaying purposes and not trying to min/max.

Ah Ok. So The assumption is that the 'free non linear option' is makes up for this. I just assumed it was a fudge option rather than canon one for the GM.

Thanks.

I like this, consider it stolen. In my campaign, I'll be requiring some backstory from the player if they want to take their "free" jump. Yes, I charge for free things. :)
