In secret rooms, do the monster challenge tokens give a search card when you defeat the monster. Or are the only challenge tokens that give search markers the attribute test ones? I can understand if the monster ones don't as that would help balance the secret rooms.

No, if the challenge token reveals a monster then you will not get a search card for it. The only way to get a search card is to reveal and then pass an attribute test.
