Nien, L'ulo, and Rey: Never mind the stress

By Pa Weasley, in X-Wing Squad Lists

This list started off life as an attempt to run a slightly stripped down Resistance Falcon. It's an easy ship to load up with solid upgrades but I often feel this leads to bloat and your remaining squad squad light on points. Though she has the highest starting price, Rey is the YT-1300 pilot best suited to a thin build. Sadly sun bathing the the Jakku desert has left the Falcon a bit rickety. All that red on the dial and action bar begs for the title. Thankfully Rey's supply of force tokens are in no way shape or form impacted by that pesky stress.

From there it became an evolving combinations of T-70s and RZ-2s. I eventually settled on Nien and L'ulo for a theme of not fearing ye dreaded stress tokens. Partnering Nien with PA is well established. Adding evade seemed a given have been stapled onto my Jek builds. And the jamming beam was installed for the simple fact that it's difficult for me to experiment with it if I don't include it. L'ulo obviously loves stress but needs to be able to keep arc dodging. Hence the primed thrusters. It's the most expensive upgrade in this list but if I barrel roll or boost my way out of having to rely on L'ulo's two green dice while stressed the happier I am. So, bring on the critique and mockery!

Rey (80)
Shield Upgrade (4)
Rey’s Millennium Falcon (5)

Nien Nunb (55)
Elusive (3)
Integrated S-Foils (0)
Pattern Analyzer (5)
Hardpoint: Cannon (0)
Jamming Beam (0)

L’ulo L’ampar (38)
Heroic (1)
Primed Thrusters (9)

Total: 200

I like the list.

My question is whether allowing Lulo to boost before barrel rolling twice a game is worth 9 points.

If we remove remove primed thrusters, we can add AdvProTorp to Nien and still have a 3 point bid.

Or add Lone Wolf to Lulo and have a 4 point bid.

I'd get Predator (or Trick Shot if thats more your thing...) on L'ulo

@Pa Weasley,

I like it.

Two important things to remember about Resistance right now:

1. FO aces.

I6 Midnight+I6 Quickdraw make for very sad A-Wing aces...no matter how many tricks or how big your bid.

2. Move last is costly.

If you're willing to take the risk with the FO aces (and Wedge and Vader and any Poe matchups), then you've probably got to bid 8-11 points, depending on your local meta or how big of a tournament you're traveling to. Empire set the bar with 17 point bid for their I5 Redline pre-points change. I think the new floor (in general) is probably around 10.

Conclusion:

Primed is awesome on Lulo as long as you keep in mind the above, and (for your build) plan to move BEFORE any other bidding fives.

Otherwise...

Run 200 point Resistance and tech to move first+shoot first (optics or ferrosphere paint or pattern analyzer).

What I'm unsure of is if L'ulo is worth 10 points on upgrades over a naked T70. We're talking three health points and a much more open dial here.

Thanks for the feedback all. It's genuinely appreciated. As far as bids go, you are all right. I probably wouldn't take this list to a tournament due to the lack of any sort of bid. Fortunately FLGS group is pretty casual and we're just running season competitions. Otherwise I would absolutely drop Primed Thrusters for AO or Lone Wolf.

As far as a Blue Recruit T-70 versus L'ulo, that's a though. I mentally have I1 ships in the swarm/cheap blocker category (I keep meaning to try out a four BR T-70 list) but just one on the board could be fun.

Rey needs Finn (or Engine upgrade at a minimum) Rey will get shredded without that extra die on offense and defense. She isn’t even a threat in this list. She’s the last target in my opinion.
