Limited Visibility Change

By JediPartisan, in Star Wars: Legion

Old:

During the first round, each unit’s line of sight beyond range 2 is blocked. During the second round, each unit’s line of sight beyond range 3 is blocked.

New:

During the first round, units cannot perform ranged attacks beyond range 2. During the second round, units cannot perform ranged attacks beyond range 3.

In the first iteration of this card, it is all about line of sight, but now it’s just about range. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with the original and I don’t think they changed the rules for LOS, so why the change? Could there be a unit coming that some how plays with blocked LOS? Maybe indirect fire? Or was there a problem of which I’m unaware?

they did it for the reason of LOS to a defender, if your LOS is blocked to a mini you can't kill it so if you had a unit leader at range 2 but the rest of the unit at range 3 yes you could attack it but the rest of minis couldn't take damage as your LOS was blocked to that minis at range 3.

Seems specifically done so that you don't have to check range for every model.

Agreed. I think this is more of a quality if life change. If anything it speeds up gameplay, and is a lot more concise and clear.

As previous posters azeronbloodmoone and MasterShake2 have already stated, the issue was primarily that checking the range from each miniature was necessary for determining Line of Sight with the original wording of Limited Visibility. This slows down the game significantly, and is seemingly counter to the original design of Legion where range for shooting is determined by measuring from the Unit Leader of the Attack to the nearest model in the target unit only.

My playgroup in particular missed the interaction between checking Line of Sight from each miniature and the range restriction of Limited Visibility, and it was only when the clarification was added to the Official Rules pinned post that we realized we had been misplaying the card.

My two cents are that it was changed because the rule for LOS is that if the unit leader is no LOS but other minis do then the defender has heavy cover. So, if you were going to attack and the defender is out in the open, but being clever, you put your units in front of the unit leader to get within range. The defenders would still grab heavy cover because the leader has no LOS.

Amusing part is my local group played it the way it is now anyway, never had any line of sight issues in those turns. So nothing changed on my end.
